Bacteria Closes Bristol Town Beach
The state Department of Health ordered Bristol Town Beach closed Wednesday.
The Department of Health has closed Bristol Town Beach to swimming due to high bacteria counts.
The beach, at 50 Asylum Road, will remained closed until further notice, along with Newport's Third Beach and King Park Beach, and Warwick's Goddard Memorial State Park Beach. Officials will continue to monitor the water quality and recommend re-opening when the areas are safe for swimming. Water quality analysis is conducted by the Health Department laboratory or a state certified laboratory.
Beach status may change on a daily basis. For up-to-date information about swimming at Rhode Island beaches, visit www.health.ri.gov/beaches or for recorded information about Rhode Island bathing beaches, call 401-222-2751.

If my son and I were picking up rocks and shells on Monday, are we at risk for harboring this bacteria? Just curious...
