Breakfast with Santa, Bristol's Grand Illumination and Holiday Theater Productions

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are five suggestions.

1. Support the Kickemuit Middle School Masquers by attending their presentation of  "A Christmas Carol". Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Find out more about this event by clicking here.

2. Have Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 4, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Warren. Enjoy a full breakfast and take photographs with Santa. The event is hosted by the Warren American Legion Post #104 and is open from 8 to 11 a.m.. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children under the age of 8 and free for children under the age of 4 and proceeds benefit local charity work. Photos with Santa are available for $5.

3. The Chinese Music Ensemble of Boston will play at Roger Williams University on Saturday, Dec. 4. As part of university efforts to "bridge the world", RWU will host the group on Saturday while focusing this month on East Asian culture. The concert is free and will be held in the Performing Arts Center (the barn) at 2 p.m.

Also offered at RWU on Saturday is the performance of Bertold Brecht's "The Good Woman of Setzuan." The play, set in Brecht's fantasy of China, is a philosophical, musical comedy. Saturday, Dec. 4, is the last chance to catch the performance at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors.

4. Stop by the Warren Animal Shelter's Holiday Shop at 80 Wood Street on Saturday, Dec. 4, and Sunday, Dec. 5, from 12 to 4 p.m. to purchase Christmas gifts. The Holiday Shop will offer unique handmade items and donated gifts as well as baked goods to nibble on. All of the proceeds from the Holiday Shop sale will benefit the shelter.

5. On Sunday, Dec. 5, celebrate the upcoming holiday throughout the day at the Bristol Christmas Festival and Grand Illumination.

Begin the day by having breakfast and taking photographs with Santa at Mt. Hope High School from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Also at Mt. Hope, children can participate in activities such as an ornament workshop (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.), face painting and balloon twisting and a Noah's Ark workshop (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.).

At 4:45, head down to the Burnside Building in Bristol for the "Pre-Grand Illumination Show" to enjoy elementary and high school student caroling, and the introduction of Bristol's Town Officials and the Spirit of Christmas Award Winner. At 6 p.m. the Grand Illumination will take place, lighting the heart of downtown Bristol. Following the lighting ceremony, Town Administrator Diane Mederos will follow in the holiday tradition by reading "'Twas the Night Before Christmas", and the evening will conclude with a sing-a-long of "We Wish You A Merry Christmas."
