Bristol and Warren Delegation Take Oaths of Office [VIDEO]
The members of the 2013-14 Rhode Island General Assembly convened for the first time on Jan. 1.
In the customary biennial tradition, members of the Rhode Island General Assembly took their oaths of office at the State House on Tuesday night, Jan. 1.
Among the freshman class of the 2013-14 session was Bristol Rep. Kenneth Marshall (D-Dist. 68, Bristol, Warren), who won election over two opponents in November.
Fellow Democratic Reps. Jan Malik (D-Dist. 67, Barrington, Warren) and Raymond Gallison (D-Dist. 69, Bristol, Portsmouth) returned to the state House of Representative seats they've held since 1996 and 2000, respectively.
In the Senate, Walter Felag Jr. (D-Dist. 10, Bristol, Tiverton, Warren), Christopher Ottiano (R-Dist. 11, Bristol, Portsmouth, Tiverton), and David Bates (R-Dist. 32, Barrington, Bristol, East Providence) — all of whom ran unopposed in the November elections — took their oaths of office.
Rep. Gordon Fox (D-Dist. 4, Providence) was returned to the House speakership by a vote of 66-6, with 3 abstentions. Sen. Teresa Paiva-Weed (D-Dist. 13 Newport, Jamestown) regained the presidency in a 37-1 vote.
