Bristol Police Arrest Second Brother on Child Molestation Charges

Jesse Perry, 56, was ordered held without bail following his arraignment this morning in Sixth District Court, Providence.

East Bay Newspapers reported this morning that Jesse Perry, 56, has been ordered held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions on child molestation charges.

Jesse Perry is the brother of Richard Perry, who is currently awaiting a bail hearing at the Adult Correctional Institutions on four felony counts of child molestation.

Bristol Police arrested Jesse Perry on Jan. 4, according to an article on eastbayri.com posted at about 11:30 am today.

Jesse Perry, a former Bristol resident, was charged with one count each of first- and second-degree child molestation, according to a press release issued by Bristol Police this afternoon.

Judge William Clifton remanded Jesse Perry — a retired teacher from the Dighton-Rehoboth School District — to prison until a scheduled Jan. 18 bail hearing, the newspaper reported, and attorney Paul DiMaio is representing both men.

How do you know this?

1) If you're on the investigative team, you've betrayed a confidence and are completely unprofessional.

2) If you were in the room when the abuse happened, then you're either complicit or you too are a victim.

Outside of #1 and #2 as possibilities, there's no way you can back up your statements. Unless you're a victim, would you please just maintain a respectful silence and stop trying to whip this into a frenzy?

Maintaining a silence is exactly what happened the past 20+ years and brought us to this.
Hats off to the people that are now coming forward-takes alot of guts to do it and can't be an easy thing to do.

I agree Jim silence never solved anything other than allowing injustices to continue no matter what they are. History proves it.

Jesse was a great teacher and one who was always there to help his students whether it was in the classroom or through charity events. I always remembering him giving money to the kids who couldn't afford lunch so they would feel like everyone else. Throughout my years of experience with Jesse, I not any of my fellow classmate had ever felt threated by him in these manors. He was one of the "coolest" teachers and made learning for us students. If thes accusations are true, he deserves to be punished and imprisioned. However, I hope they are not true, it is very easy to make accusations on his behalf in this day an age. Without even making his plea, he is already seen as a prejudged criminal by being an unmarried 58 year old man, affiliated with children by teaching and devoting his time coaching sports. God Bless you Jesse, I pray for the best and hope that these are false accusations. If true, shame in you and you best be punished. -sincerely supporting student and athlete.

So Capt, you are basically making the argument for Jesse that Sandusky made for, and continues to make, for himself - highlighting all of the great things he did for the kids in his various programs - the clothes he bought them, places he took them, advantages he gave them, etc. what a great guy he was indeed.

I'm sure that the students he was close with (generally those in bad family situations, or without father figures - based on my anecdotal experience) appreciated the attention they were given.

I'm sure the boys he gave cool nicknames to, and the boys he selected to be his "dummies" in the front of my 5th grade science class (so that he could explain how all the bones were connected) appreciated the attention, too.

If nothing did happen at the sleep overs he used to hold for his students, I hope he goes free, if he did not in fact make any advances towards the boys in the situations I listed above, I hope he goes free, but he CERTAINLY did not do himself any favors in terms of NOT looking like a pedophile. Even my friends and I, then in 6th grade, had the wherewithal to realize that it was odd for "Mr. McFeely" (as we so cleverly dubbed him) to hold sleepovers for his male students.

Anyone with half a brain would have drawn the conclusion that something was up with this guy, because he simply paid too much attention to his male students, got a little too close, but in all honesty, I wish him all the best if this isn't true.

Well, Capt:

I have never read a comment so full of poor grammar, bad spelling, etc. If Jesse Perry was your English teacher, he didn't do you any favors. Also, did it ever occur to you that the Perry brothers chose jobs (teacher, school custodian) that enabled them to be near kids? I hope this isn't true, but it seems that lots of people in Bristol knew about this for years and never acted. How do you people sleep at night knowing that you could have helped save one kid from being molested, but yet, you did nothing. To you, Jim Riding, if you knew about these men (and others) why didn't YOU alert the authorities? Supposedly, this has been going on for some twenty years, and you give the impression that you knew about these brothers AND OTHERS! What's up with that?

Dear Capt,

Please know that a child molesters MO (modus operandi) is to "always be there" for the kids. Be the "coolest", caring, and giving money to kids that need it is the number one way a molester builds trust with them. I'm sure he was always around kids that needed a father figure. Giving them rides and giving them money is what these boys needed...and Rick & Jesse were there for them.

Be thankful that you were not one of his victims but please do not support a child molester.

I hoping that the third brother, Jack... the person I knew best, I coached the defense one Mustang season when he was the head coach and spent a whole lot of time playing baseball for him, was not involved in any of this.

I only saw Rick in HS or when he Umpired and he did give off a weird vibe, but Jessie I barely knew at all.

Anne
I'm a lifelong Bristolian. I grew up in the 70's and 80's. Never played any organized sports. Most if not all of my friends did. Heard many stories growing up. Hear many stories now. I'm know and were friendly with some of the brave people that came forward.
Even in my rebellious teens these guys gave me the creeps. They still do.
Are there any people in your life that you find odd or creepy? I'll bet there is.
This has been a very dark well kept secret by many- what about his employers? Little leaugue? Football?
Let's concentrate on the issue-these people are where they should be. They will be processed by our legal system. And we will hear the truth.

There seems to be discrepancies here. I don't know either of these guys personally, but did go to KMS and Rick was the janitor, and yes he has an air of creepiness. I work at a small store and a lot of creepy people come in daily. What Jim is saying above is that he had friends who played sports with these men, and they were creepy. But he also eludes to knowing of molestation happening and did not report. So either you saw it or you didn't. Speculating isn't really fair to anyone, and they are innocent until proven guilty. I never heard of any of these allegations, but I didn't play sports either. If its true than they deserve to be prosecuted. I thought there was a statute of limitations that crimes from over 10 years ago wouldn't be applicable for prosecution, but I am sure that when relating to molestation, it may have different legal guidelines, compared to theft for example.

Anyway, if people on here claim to have known about this for 20+ years, then you should be ashamed of yourself for letting more children get molested and not reporting it to the police. If anything, you should be made an accessory of the crime, because if you know for sure it happened, like some claim, than you must have seen it, and therefore are an accessory. If you didn't actually see it, don't say it must have happened...

I'm not sure you have an understanding of the situation that a young boy would find themselves in after being molested by a trusted adult figure such as a priest or a coach etc.

Read the Bristol Police Departments take on this where they state that as many as 45 people have come forward and that they have had some knowledge that this had been happening for decades. Formal complaints had been made as far back as the 1990's.

It is no easy thing to come forward about being abused. The Catholic Church protected pedophile priests here and over seas for decades if not centuries and it only became public over the last 30 years. Father O'Connell from St Marys was one of them. The Church moved him from Bristol after he was charged and did a year of home confinement moving him to New Jersey where he molested more children and was jailed again.

All a parent might hear about this from the child is that they didn't feel comfortable being around that person. The predator counts on this behavior.

You are correct in that the Statute of Limitations varies depending on the crime. On some crimes there is no time limit.

I never claimed to be a witness to their crimes- I stated that the stories were around when I was growing up but when you hear the same story with different names involved it stays in the back of your mind.
Read EastBayRI to get more info. He was investigated way back in the 90's but not charged because of the statute of limitations. How are teenage victims supposed to feel if he gets away with it?

The Perrys must have due process but society cannot dismiss responsibility. Human nature is to first deny the "creep" inner voice.
Son played all sports (not in Bristol) born into Church Pedophile scandal. I found myself asking questions of him I had never imagined preparing myself for motherhood. These creeps have an obsession to be around children. The more vulnerable children are, the more easily manipulated.
With my son no longer in danger of "creeps", my intuition still runs @full alert.
We had a teen @work (broken low inc home, introverted,etc)-R Perry shows up-talking to boy, handing him $10, store bag w/shirt, small gifting.Caught my attention-spoke to no one else--not even "hello" & always pulled the boy to a corner alone. After a few times I asked if he was a relative-attempting to silence my "little voice inside". The boy (with lowered eyes) said he "HAD BEEN his coach" & my little voice was screaming but--how to ask someone else's child? This shy boy would not look me in the eye the rest of that day-I know he had seen the fear in my eyes.He left the job a few wks later wi/out job prospect & Perry never showed up again.
I now hear the young man is contemplating coming forward--I pray for him to endure this painful decision process. Children are not always fortunate in their home life. To torture them mentally & physically is unforgivable. Society must must find a better way to quickly expose such creeps. We are all responsible for this repeated failure.

Interesting, I spoke to a guy who runs a business in town and works with various youth sports the other day who told me Rick Perry was always hanging around kids whose dads weren't around and their mothers were off working. Seems to be a pattern. Really sucks that kids nowadays can't even trust a big brother father figure type. My guess is they must have grown up in a pretty messed up home to turn around and both do this stuff to others.

It is so sad and the victims are being so brave. Try to remember that there are family members of the Perry's that must be devestated also, although I do not know them, but we should be considerate towards them also. With all the comments posted, a person starts to wonder about the past and strangeness of some teachers. My son had a teacher a long, long time ago that still to this day sticks in my mind, his name was Mr. Nimmo. Did anyone ever encounter any strangeness with him. Just wondering.
