Bristol Resident Hopes to Open Sweet Bakery in Barrington
Bristol resident Gina Perry wants to open 'The Sweet Shoppe' specialty bakery in Barrington
Barrington could soon have a real sweet spot on Waseca Avenue thanks to one Bristol resident.
Gina Perry wants to bring The Sweet Shoppe specialty bakery to Barrington. It is just a stone's throw down the street from Sweet Lorraine's candy shop.
Sweet!
“I found that I have a real love for baking,” said Perry, especially cakes, cupcakes and wedding cakes.
Perry says she wants to translate her love for pastries into the bake shop.
Perry goes before the Barrington zoning board on Jan. 19 for a special-use permit to open her shop in space adjacent to the Wild Flower Florist and Garden Center. She is leasing space from Wild Flower owner Kathy Luther.
For Perry, operating a retail store will be “a new endeavor". But she has plenty of experience helping to run her husband’s building contractor business, and she has worked for Blackstone Caterers.
Perry also is a recent graduate of the culinary program at Bristol Community College in Fall River. She can’t wait to put her education and talent to use.
“I’ve got the kitchen equipment already,” she said. “He’ll be building my bakery for me.”
She was referring to her husband. They have two sons, ages 6 and 8.
Perry expects to open her doors around March 1, presuming she gets all the approvals she needs from Barrington and the RI health department.
Cakes will definitely be her specialty, she said, including gluten-free pastries.
“I love to do wedding cakes,” she said. “That’s my favorite.”
Perry plans to be open six days a week, Tuesday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm.

How unfortunate she didn't see fit to start her shop in Bristol. Is Bristol so adverse to small businesses? Sadly there are so many in Bristol closing down.
