Did Voters Do The Right Thing?

Take another look at the results and sound off in the comments section for or against the election results.

it's been two days. You've had a little time to gather your thoughts and reflect on the results of the 2012 election, both nationally and locally.

So we want to know: Is there anything you would change, in hindsight? Did voters ultimately do the right thing?

Happy, happy , happy for Tony Teixeira. Great spanking to the old guard Barboza also ;-}.

To the Council, lot of new blood and that is a good thing. The 2 Old guard were the least polarizing to the people at Council Meeting. So also a good thing. Look forward to a responsible Town Government for the people by the people. What a refreshing change that will be.

It would have been nice to see at least one Independent on the Bristol Town Council :-)

Sorry Carol, but it seems like Diana Campbell may have been too closely aligned with the teabaggers, and there's where she met her demise.

It's somewhat hard to determine if she is aligned with, or was supported by the teabaggers, but if she wants to have any shot of winning in 2014, she should seek the endorsement of the Democratic Town Committee, and distance herself from the teabaggers.

Jack, "aligned with teabaggers?" Are you kidding? Really? If you have read any of my blogs, you will know that I am quite liberal. I have been an Independent since I first registered to vote. It was the height of the Viet Nam War. Mr. Nash, Mr. Matrone, and Mr. Fasano helped all who were interested to register at the new Bristol High School. At the time, I was very anti-everything, and registered as an Independent. I have been one every since -- always voting my conscience, always speaking my mind, always being open to new ideas. I founded Voices for Bristol with the sole intention of giving voice to the residents of the Town who were not being heard by the party system. I founded Voices before the Tea Party was founded. I realize that you may be right that, in order to be elected, I may have to choose to be a part of a party. That is a choice that I will not take lightly, if I decide to go that way. You are absolutely wrong, however, about my alignment with the Tea Party. They would not agree with my positions on pretty much every issue of the day.

Hi Diana-Thank you for clarifying things-very much appreciated.

As you probably noticed now that the campaign is over, Rhode Islanders are very wary and suspicious of the teabaggers, and when someone runs as an independent, many voters automatically think teabagger.

If you decide to run for election again in 2014, here's some advice for you: No need to join a major party-Texeira and Linc Chafee proved independents can win in RI. Also, while you can't control who endorses you, having Jack Baillargeron, Marina Peterson, or any of their ilk endorsing you does you no favors whatsoever.

You seem like a nice person, and someone who will stand up for the working class/public employees, women's rights, etc. If you can get that message across to the voters in the next two years and distance yourself from the war mongering, anti-union, women hating teabaggers, you will have many more supporters on election day.

Keep up the good work-best of luck in the future!

Jack-How about your feelings on the election of President Obama, David Cicciline, Gordon Fox, Teresa Paiva Weed, and Dominick Ruggeiro?

And what about 5 more republicans in the GA being thrown out?

Great news on the bond questions, especially for the veterans home. Looks like you backed a bunch of losers Jack.

First and fore most, the question for the blog is a mute point, the people voted as they saw fit, the candidates did what they had to do to convince the public that they were the ones for the job, to make voters second guess themselves is self-serving as a way to promote something to write about is bogus. Everyone has the ability to vote, if you didn't vote and are upset with the outcome, well quite frankly "Too Badd". People make conscience decisions based upon information gathered either from the media or on their own. The fact is, the people made the decision as to whom is sitting in these positions, we all have to live with those decisions, no one person is able to see into the future and predict how a candidate will perform, there are too many factors that can change ones performance. To ask if people chose poorly is a terrible excuse for a blog to keep the patch network busy.

As a small business owner I was gunning for some fresh new ideas to help the small business district in Bristol. I will say I would have loved to see Diana and Stephen on the council. Both are outstanding citizens of our Bristol Community and I know would always have the small business community (which makes up most of Bristol)backs.
Run again...both of you and I will be there to help with your campaign!!!
