Dunkin' Brands Takes Stand Against Obamacare

The company is lobbying the White House to changes its definition of full-time work from 30 hours a week to 40 or more per week, according to reports.

Dunkin' Brands
, parent company of Dunkin' Donuts, has joined the fight against Obamacare

The coffee and baked goods company is working to overturn a major provision of Obamacare, according to a Newsmax.com report this week. There are three Dunkin' Donut locations in Bristol, on Metacom Avenue and Hope Street.

Specifically, Dunkin' is lobbying the White House to change its definition of full-time work from at least 30 hours a week to 40 or more per week, CEO Nigel Travis told the Financial Times, according to The Huffington Post.

The change would leave Dunkin', as well as other companies, with fewer workers to insure under the health care reform law, which requires large employers to provide health coverage to all full-time workers and their dependents. Those companies who fail to provide coverage could face a penalty of $2,000 per worker. The mandate applies to every company with 50 or more full-time employees.

What do you think? Do you support the move by Dunkin' Brands? Let us know in the comments section below.

All worjers should be insured. The price of a cup of coffee might go up a dime or so, but I think we can afford it.

So wholeheartedly agree! If the way we can afford this is to up the price of coffee by a small amount, then I am willing to pay the price - better goal than putting more profits into corporate greed.

Dunkin Donuts causes obesity and diabetes. I make my own coffee grinding whole beans at home for a delicious coffee and save $25 a week! If Dunkin Donuts closed its doors people would be better off

Some other chain would move into the area. I love their coffee and only eat something from there on occasion. I agree the food isn't healthy. Ever had a Krispy Kreme?

Good luck Dunkin Donuts. It's not corporate greed. More likely it's an attempt to preserve workers rights and hours. More and more workers will be laid off or have their hours cut and they will have the Obamacare tax to thank for their small pay checks. Look at the big picture people. Wake up ands see the mess this law will cause us all!

before you assume it would be as easy as upping the price of coffee by a dime....do some actual human research and find out the actual cost-call your local dunkin employees & discover employees paychecks now avg under $200 because their avg hours cut from 35 avg to 25 in order to avoid the 30 hr mandate
this is quite more expensive to society than a dime up in coffee
Dunkin is a source of flexibility in scheduling for many students, single moms, etc.
if they don't make enough, guess who has to pay more
yup-parents, social subsidies, etc
why is government healthcare mandated to private employers for part time employees???
oh wait--they are smarter to stay home and get it all for free without making one hour of effort at self supporting
<<sigh>>
