Massachusetts Man Sentenced in Connection with Fatal Crash on Mt. Hope Bridge
Jamie Pretti of Plymouth, MA, pleaded no contest to two charges related to a 2008 fatal car crash that occurred on the Mt. Hope Bridge.
Jamie Pretti of Plymouth, MA, was sentenced today on two counts related to a fatal car crash that occurred in September 2008 on the Mt. Hope Bridge, according to the state Office of the Attorney General.
Pretti pleaded no contest to one count of driving under the influence (DUI), death resulting, and to leaving the scene, death resulting.
He was sentenced to 15 years, with seven to serve (three and a half years at the Adult Correctional Institutions and three and a half years on home confinement), he lost his license for five years, and he ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
The fatal car crash occurred on Sept. 12, 2008, when Jamie Pretti and a friend, Timothy Macleod, also of Plymouth, MA, left the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth for a party at Roger Williams University.
At around 11:30 p.m., as Pretti crossed the Mt. Hope Bridge, he apparently lost control of the vehicle when he tried to pass the car in front of him. The car crashed into the side of the bridge.
MacLeod, Pretti's passenger and close friend, was killed in the crash. Pretti consented to a breath test and his blood alcohol level was more than two times the legal limit, according to the Office of the Attorney General.
Pretti has been out on $100,000 surety bail since the the date of the accident. He has now been remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections.
