The Newport School Committee unanimously voted to approve the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. John H. Ambrogi to appoint Jaime Crowley as Principal of Thompson Middle School during last Thursday's school commitee meeting. The appointment is effective July 1, 2011.
Current Thompson principal Eric Thomas resigned earlier this year.

Crowley has been an Assistant Principal at Mt. Hope High School since 2007, and has been actively involved as a curriculum facilitator and trainer in both the Bristol-Warren Regional School District and for the Rhode Island Department of Education.
Jaime was the Rhode Island Assistant Principal of the Year in 2010 and additionally was the Rhode Island Milken Educator of the Year in 2010.
The school committee and superintendent said they look forward to Crowley’s leadership skills and commitment to the Newport community to enhance educational opportunities for the students who attend Thompson Middle School.

Congratulations, Mr. Crowley. It's a huge loss to the Bristol/Warren school district, but it's a great promotion. Thanks for everything you did with, and for the school system. Between your teachings and your work in the front office - you helped more kids get through school than you know. The kids and parents in Newport are lucky to have you, and the faculty, lucky to work with you. You'll be missed, Mr. Crowley. Thank you for your dedication and hard work, and the best of luck to you!
