Update: Power Restored to Most of Region

There are some pockets still in the dark, but Bristol and Warren are mostly lit up.

National Grid is reporting most residents in Bristol and Warren have had power restored, and crews continue to work on areas still in the dark.

The power company is reporting on its Outage Map that there are just small pockets of outages remaining around the two towns. Just more than 50 people are out in the Laurel Park area in Warren, and a pocket between State Street and BayView Ave, where several outages are still being reported. Any other power outages are sporadic and scattered around the area, most impacting just a handful of people.

Widespread outages were expected in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, a huge, damaging storm that hit New Joersey but sent hurricane force winds as far north as southern Rhode Island. The tropical storim force winds felt in Bristol and Warren were enough to plunge thousands inthe area into darkness.

We'll continue to monitor power outages throughout the next couple of days, but you can help us track which parts of town are in the dark. Let us know in the comments section below if you still can't turn on the lights.

Latest from conference call at 12:30 PM with RI State Emergency Management Agency.
Through the National Weather Service they could not stress how serious a threat we are facing with Hurricane Sandy.
The highest winds will be occurring between 2:00 PM and 10:00 PM this evening.
Significant impact will be felt in coastal areas. An astronomical high tide in combination with strong winds occurring at 8:20 PM will result in a storm surge.
People are advised to seek shelter if they are in flood prone areas, or if not, please stay indoors until the emergency declaration is lifted.
In Bristol, for emergencies continue to call 911.
For information or assistance with non-medical/fire issues please call the Emergency Operation Center at 253-6912,
Stay safe.

North Farm lost power before the wind gusts! Yesterday, I drove the length of 114 and no effort had been made to trim trees away from lines! This is getting ridiculous! Something has to be done to hold either the towns or NAtional Grid respinsible for trimming trees!

National Grid was on the scene at Constitution and Hope Street and are in the process of rerouting power and repairing the line. Power to the downtown and areas south should be restored within a few hours.
There next stop is addressing the outages in the northern area of town.
