Portsmouth Child Drowns in Pool

The four-year-old was pronounced dead at St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River.

A four-year-old child drowned in a pool on Cottage Avenue in Portsmouth Sunday, reports wpri.com.

Officials said the child was found unresponsive in or near a backyard pool and was rushed to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Portsmouth Police are continuing to investigate. Neighbors reportedly said they did not know the family who lived at the home particularly well, but heard screams for help before police and rescue arrived, the TV station reported.

Yes why was there no insurance on the pool, for a drowning, its a shame that a 4 year old was in that situation,he was a young child left in the care of his grandmother, now who's responsible,4 the death of this child,is the landlord responsible on homeowners insurance, well the parents of this child would like answers, along with other members who was involved in this child's life, that was cut short!

what does insurance have to do with anything?? if there was insurance for drowning, how would that change anything?? you should really grow up and stop trying to be hurtful.....its not healthy for anyone involved!!!

you really don't need to comment like this. i know one of the people involved very well and you saying things like that isn't happening the situation. who do you really think you are? it is clearly no ones thought. Accidents happen. the family of this child is having it rough right now and you have no right to be saying things like that. it was not the grandmother's fault. so keep to yourself. got it?

There is no pool insurance. It is the responsibility of the person living there, to close and lock the pool gate. As a parent, it's odd that a 4 year old was out of adult supervision long enough for this tragedy to occur. Where was the supervision?

As I am now living in a town with many pools (Tucson), drownings happen in the wink of an eye. Mop buckets, dog dishes, fish ponds.....it's all about keeping tabs at all times on the little guys, it happens sooooooo fast. Be kind.

my prayers and thoughts go out to the family, friends and people who worry about insurance when a tradegy strikes. i am sure if a love one dies in there family they will call the insurance company first. as far as child being watched sure anything can happen, i am sure it will be investigated as all things like this are. My aunt lost her daughter 11 years ago to drowning, accident??? she was inside drinking flirting and not paying attention. she got 6 years invoultrary manslaughter and lost her 3 other kids. everything happens quick thats why we as parents are quicker god bless

Sad story, heart goes out to all. As a person who lost a someone dear and paid for the funeral, I can only guess the topic of insurance came up for the paying of the funeral. A cremation is the least 3000. and prices quickly rise from there. The first thought of losing a loved one is sadly, how are we going to afford the arrangements. Not everyone has thousands of dollars in savings and if you have insurance to pay the costs it usually takes a bit, I was fortunate not to have that anxiety. It's a sad time for everyone and words can be taken out of context especially on the internet.

If those 3 little boys drowned next door to me yesterday, it would have been people's fault. The man that left his fence opened and his ladder down for one. In addition, the parents and grandparents of the children that just let them out to play unsupervised.
