Self-serve Yogurt Shop Plans Bristol Location
Swizzles Frozen Yogurt expects to open on Hope Street in December or January.
The largest self-serve frozen yogurt chain in New England will soon make its way to the East Bay as Swizzles Frozen Yogurt has signed a lease on Hope Street in Bristol.
Founder and owner Adam Kessner plans to set up shop at 433 Hope Street after signing a lease on the property last week. He plans to submit plans for the shop to the town in September, with the goal of opening to the public in December or January. While that may seem like an odd time to open a frozen yogurt shop, Kessner said the winter doesn't deter customers.
"We opened in the dead of winter in Winchester, MA, and we killed it," said Kessner, a New York resident. "You New Englanders love your ice cream in winter."
Swizzles is a self-serve frozen yogurt shop, where customers can choose from a rotating selection of frozen yogurt flavors, then add their own toppings from a selection of 30 treats. Swizzles rotates through about 25 flavors, with 10 on tap at any given time, including chocolate, vanilla, cookies and cream, cake batter and several others. Most flavors are non-fat, with some low-fat varieties mixed in. Customers choose their cups, fill them with as much yogurt and toppings as they want, then pay by the weight.
"You can fill up $1 worth of $10 worth," Kessner said. "It puts the control in the customer's hands. And it's a ton of fun. My goal with Swizzles was to offer a place where families can come and truly have an enjoyable and delicious experience."
Swizzles has five locations in three states — Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York — with three more scheduled to open this month. The Bristol location will be the yogurt shop's first foray into Rhode Island, with plans for a Barrington location soon after. For more information, visit the Swizzles website here.

You would think in this economy & so many businesses shutting their doors our little towns would welcome the addition of what sounds to me like something that pleases everyone's palate...I would love to have them here in Warren !

yes- and I was FOR Dunkin Donuts and am in there every day. so I guess I'm agreeing with David- seems we pick and choose! Is it time to repeal the rule? Every person for themselves??? I don't see much business in the new nail salon across from the new Yogurt place- can we trust towns people to support our local folk? I'm all for letting people think for them selves!!! Just opening a train of thought...

This is terrific news! It's not a bank, it's not a realtor, it's not an insurance agency... it's something delicious that we can all enjoy!!!

If it's a chain, it is considered a formula business and will come under the purvue of the HDC. Dunkin Donuts was allowed to come to town with guidelines for signage and their streetfront appearance. I'm sure they will be allowed to move in as long as they are willing to limit their signs and try to be in keeping with the other businesses along Hope St. It is good news to hear that another store front will be filled. For a while I was worried that a lot of Hope St. would have empty spaces but it looks to be turning around again. Always a good sign despite the tough economy at the moment.

Really looking forward to Angelina's Expresso Cafe, cannot wait for this weekend when they open, and now a new Yogurt shoppe, how good is that? Small business coming to the table to show the strength of new business openings. We are very lucky to have people willing to make a leap of faith for the local economy.

I have been to one of their locations in MA. No matter how hard you try you will not get out of there without spending at least $8.00. They give you a huge dish, so that you are tempted to fill it, and then they weigh it. $$$. Good luck with this endeavor!
