State Police Arrest Former Coach on Molestation Charges
Richard Perry, 55, of Warren, was indicted by a Providence County grand jury last Thursday.
The Rhode Island State Police announced the arrest of a former youth football and baseball coach and custodian at a local school on two counts each of first- and second-degree child molestation charges.
In a statement released over the weekend, Col. Steven O'Donnell said that state and Bristol Police officers arrested Richard Perry, 55, of 50 Arlington Ave., Warren, following a six-month investigation.
According to O'Donnell, Perry is a former Pop Warner football coach and Bristol Little League coach and umpire, and formerly worked as a custodian at Kickemuit Middle School.
Officers presented Perry for arraignment in Providence Superior Court on Dec. 13 before Magistrate Susan Kenny, who ordered Perry held without bail.
Perry is scheduled for a status conference on Dec. 20.
O'Donnell said that police are seeking any information from residents about this case, and asked that potential leads are reported to the State Police at (401) 444-1000 or the Bristol Police at (401) 253-6900.

This shouldn't come as a shock to any kid that grew up in Bristol in the last 30 years.

30 plus years...times 3? That's a lot of charges. I bet the whole family operation is shut down.

Family operation is right...both Rick and Jesse were counselor's at Bristol YMCA day camp during the early 80's before joining other youth organizations around Bristol and Warren...they both would take kids to there lake house in swansea for overnights...I experienced it first hand. Though never fell victim I did not feel comfortible and never wanted to go back. Its about time someone started looking into this. I agree this is bigger than anyone can imagine. To the editor why isn't there any pictures of this man (mugshot photo) everyone should no what this guy looks likes...

Maybe the investigation will lead to some of our other older "statesmen" that have eluded the law.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that will be the case. Personally, I think this is going to rock this town. It will make Father O'Connell look like a choir boy. I also think that there had to be people associated with King Phillip Little League who at least suspected and never spoke up.

So how does a guy like him get away this for so long? I can see a situation like Sandusky where he was a big time coach with a powerful institution backing him up or these priests covered by the church. But who's Rick Perry? This guy was a janitor, an LL umpire, and a Pop Warner coach getting away with this for 30 years? You have to have someone in power watching your back for that to happen.
I met the guy once, seemed like a nice enough fellow but people told me later he was the shadiest guy in the area and worse, so it was apparent no secret. This is crazy everyone knew and no one did anything for so long.

Makes you wonder who were his adult friends.

I have to say, I honestly can't remember him or his brothers ever hanging out with anyone but young boys. Never saw them out at a restaurant, a bar, the movies, or driving down the street with another adult in their presence.

Although the act is reprehensible, I am not surprised nothing (allegedly) surfaced. Everyone knows everyone in Bristol and even minor cover ups are common. I have witnessed a big time athlete sucker punch and injure a "regular" male in the high school. THE VICTIM WAS SUSPENDED......the athlete, NOTHING!!!!
