Tom's Market to Hire 40 for Tiverton Store
It's set to open on March 27, with entry-level and highly experienced jobs available.
The following is from a press release issued by the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training:
Tom's Market, in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training's Business Workforce Center, plans to hire up to 40 people to staff its newest market opening later this month.
A recruitment fair will be held at the new location, 492 Main Road, Tiverton, on Tuesday, March 13, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday, March 14, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Jobs are available both for highly experienced individuals and for those seeking entry-level opportunities. Positions that require prior experience include meat cutters, production cooks, a grocery manager and a produce manager. Cashiers and deli service positions are also available. Positions are full- and part-time. The event is free and open to the public.
Tom's Market, which has stores in Coventry and Warren and a catering operation in Newport, plans to open the Tiverton location on March 27.
"The Business Workforce Center helped us screen applicants when we opened our Warren store, and we're eager to have them help us plug the right people into the right jobs in Tiverton," said principal owner Glenn Place states.
The RI Department of Labor and Training Business Workforce Center, located at 1511 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, offers free services for employers in the areas of job-matching, recruitment, training and transition assistance. More information is available at 1-888-616-JOBS (5627).

Looks like Tiverton is becoming business friendly, it's been a long time since our leaders have tried to to get something done rather than look for all the reasons why something cannot be done. Lets keep it rolling.

Nimbyism is the reason Tiverton homeowners have been overtaxed and our neighbors have benefited from a wider tax base, more jobs, and more stable real estate values vs what has happened in Tiverton over the past 20 years. Believe me I am not for allowing the next Johnson landfill here but we has missed out on some good opportunities because of past narrow mindedness. At least we have one vacant building filled. Hopefully we are moving in the right direction.

About 6 or 7 years ago, Stop & Shop had expressed interest in building one of their upscale 'A Level' supermarkets (North Fall River is a 'C Level' store, by comparison) in the still-empty Industrial Park. At the same time, the Town Brain Trust decided they didn't want any 'big box' stores ... in spite of the fact that the store frontage would be on Route 24 in an unused Industrial Park. Stop & Shop walked away,Tiverton lost both taxes and a supermarket, the tax rate keeps climbing and you now pay to toss your trash in a tax payer-owned landfill. 'Nuff said ...

I just hope they keep the produce they are storing off the floor. Coventry and Warren have had this problem. Do you want to buy your tomatoes when the dust and little bugs have been hovering close by?

back when i worked at the first national in portsmouth (a long time ago) you had to have racks in your coolers to keep stuff off the floor by law. I can't imagien this law being changed, can i ask how you were able to go to both stores produce coolers?

Boxed items are stored on the floor in the walk-in freezer. Food must be stored at least 6 inches above the floor.
From their Warren store Dept. of Health record. That inspection was from 2010 though.

Looks like this establishment is going to be an asset to the community. I suggest we give them a chance and not crucify them for leaving a few boxes on the floor years ago. We should be welcoming businesses in with open arms not finding things they made mistakes on in other locations years ago. If this is all they found sounds like they are doing a good job, every inspector can find something. This thinking in the past has kept businesses away from Tiverton hence caused the tax burden to be carried by the homeowners. I can't wait to visit and welcome Tom's market to the neighborhood.

I agree Bob. We've needed a market in town. I was looking at their website and they have some reasonably priced freezer meat packs that I'm looking forward to ordering.
