The Warren Little League all-stars are off to a 2-0 start after sweeping the first week of the tournament, beating Fairlawn 12-2 and Pineview 7-3.
Game 1 - June 27 at Fairlawn
Joshua Gale pitched for Warren and had 7 strikeouts. He gave up 4 hits over 4 innings while walking 2 batters. Gale also added 2 hits and a walk at the plate.
Joey Penkala, Jack Dolan, Matthew Penkala and Luke Swift all banged out hits, and Jacob Servant had two walks and scored twice. The first 4 batters for Warren — Penkala, Servant, Dolan, and Gale — all scored 2 runs a piece in the shortened mercy-rule game. All 11 players on the Warren roster reached base at least once in the game.
Through 3 innings the score remained close, with Warren leading 5-1. Fairlawn scored 1 in the top of the fourth but Warren exploded for 7 runs in the bottom of the fourth without an out being recorded, ending the game early.
Game 2 - June 29 home vs. Pineview
Joseph Penkala started on the mound for Warren and pitched 5-1/3 strong innings, allowing only 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 6 and only walking 1.
Jacob Servant replaced Penkala in the 6th when he reached his maximum pitch count. Pineview gave Warren a scare in the sixth by pushing across a run and loading the bases, but Warren was able to escape the inning and register its second win of the tournament, 7-3.
Luke Swift and Jack Dolan each had two hits, while Jacob Servant, Joshua Gale, Matthew Penkala and Eli Josephs all added one of their own. Brandon Scott, Zach Francis, Thomas Kirker and Davio Rubino all played solid defense in Warren’s victory.
Warren plays its next game at Darlington July 3 at 5:45 p.m.
