Where to Plunge Into Icy Waters on New Year's Day

Here's a look at where to find a Polar, Seal, or Penguin Plunge on Jan. 1, 2013.

 

Looking to greet 2013 with an icy stare? Hope to dare the odds and freeze your butt off this New Year's Day? 

Lucky for you, there's plenty of polar plunges happening in and around Bristol and Warren!

Here's a look at Polar, Seal, and Penguin Plunges happening this Tuesday, Jan. 1: 

Bristol

The East Bay Icebreakers take to Bristol State Beach at Colt State Park for their 2nd Annual Winter Wish Swim to benefit Children's Wishes Rhode Island. $20 registration fee, first 100 people to register receive a free mug.  

Portsmouth 

New Year's Plunge — Participants meet just before noon at The Beach House, 500 Park Ave. This plunge will be the first event celebrating the town's 375th anniversary this year! Volunteers hope 375 residents "take the plunge!"

Tiverton 

The second annual Tiverton Yacht Club's Penguin Plunge — The plunge will take place at noon at Grinnell's Beach, Main Road and Lawton Avenue in Tiverton. The event is free and open to public. A $10 donation will be accepted to benefit the Tiverton Library. 

Newport

34th Annual New Year's Day Polar Bear Plunge — The plunge will begin at noon at Easton's Beach. The plunge will benefit A Wish Come True Foundation

Jamestown 

The 37th Annual Penguin Plunge to benefit Rhode Island Special Olympics is at Roger Wheeler Beach for the second year. Registration at 10 am, plunge at noon.

Jamestown First Day Plunge — The first day plunge will take place at noon, but festivities will start at 10 a.m. at the recreation center, 41 Conanicus Ave.
