Young Artist Gets Congressional Honors

Bristol student Phoebe Mack was recognized for her entry into the 2012 Congressional Art Competition.

A young, local artist has received congressional recognition for her work in Rep. David Cicilline's statewide student art contest. Phoebe Mack, of Bristol, joined 17 other aspiring artists from around the state in collecting an award in the 2012 Congressional Art Competition. High school students Natalie Paris, of Cumberland, took top honors and will see her artwork hung in the U.S. Capitol. Alek Comella, of Providence, placed second, and Maxwell Silva, of North Providence, took third. Comella and Silva will see their works hung in Cicilline's D.C. and Pawtucket offices, respectively. Paris will also receive roundtrip airline tickets to Washington, D.C., in order to attend a congressional reception and see her art put on display in the …

Bristol Galleries Featured During Art Night

The first Art Night will take place on March 29.

The following is a release from Bristol Independent Galleries. Ten Bristol galleries will be showcased in the Bristol Independent Galleries’ new partnership event “Art Night”, which kicks off this Thursday, March 29. Art Nights Begin This March

The Art Night Committee held a launch party on Thursday to kick off the new art series.

On Thursday, March 15, residents and members of the newly formed Art Night Committee attended a launch party to kick off the art nights that will commence this summer. "The launch party was a huge success," said Jill Culora. "[It was an] awesome turnout." According to Culora, more than 100 people attended the party including nearly every featured artist, participating gallery and sponsor. "We had state reps Walter Felag and Jan Malik... Warren Town officials Cathie Tattrie, Scott Lial, Davison Bolster and Caroline Wells, and from Bristol Diane Mederos," Culora said. "The energy was really good and exciting for all." Cannes Film Festival to Open With 'Moonrise Kingdom'

Wes Anderson's film to present a "visually stunning Rhode Island postcard to a global audience," says the executive director of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office.

The Wes Anderson-directed film "Moonrise Kingdom" is slated to open the prestigious Cannes Film Festival on May 16, according to a recent announcement by the Rhode Island Film & TV Office. The film is shot entirely in Rhode Island and the official trailer was released in January. “What an honor for Wes Anderson, his stellar cast and crew, and Focus Features to open the most influential film festival in the world," said Steven Feinberg, executive director of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office, in a press release. Letter: Support the Mt. Hope Masqueraders at the RI Drama Festival

The Mt. Hope Masqueraders will be hosting the Rhode Island State Drama Festival this March.

The Mt. Hope High School Masqueraders will be performing the play, “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” in the RI State Drama Festival on Saturday, March 17 at 1 pm at the Mt. Hope Performing Arts Center. Mt. Hope is also proud to announce that the school will be hosting the State Drama Festival for Rhode Island high school students on March 16 and 17th. The festival will feature works from 11 high schools throughout the state including Barrington High School, Beacon Charter High School for the Arts, Bishop Hendricken High School, Cumberland High School, Mt.
