"2016- Obama's America" Free Showing Nov 1, 6:30pm Rogers Free Library

We will be showing the movie "2016: Obama's America" at the Rogers Free Library on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m.

"2016:Obama's America is a documentary by author and commentator Denish D'Souza. Throuth interviews and reenactments, the film compares the similarities of the lives of D'Souza and President Barack Obama as D'Souza presents his theory of how early influences on Obama are affecting the decisions he makes as president.   The film has grossed more than $33.45 million in the United States, making it the fourth highest-grossing documentary (domestically) of all time.

D'Souza describes the film as "a vista" of Obama's earlier live, following his childhood from Hawaii to Indonesia and a visit to Kenya (Obama's father's birthplace.) Such an upbringing, D'Souza contends, has caused Obama to subscribe "to an ideology that sees America very differently." D'Souza asserts that Obama's father's Kenyan roots in particular have inspired the President "to shrink America's footprint in the world because he thinks we've been stepping on the world. The film further aims to show D'Souza's predictions about how the future of the United States might unfold should Obama be electecd to a second term.

The trailer can be viewed at http://2016themovie.com/. The film is 90 minutes. We will follow with a discussion. Hope to see you there!

This is really disgusting that our local library would choose to show this heinous ultra right wing propaganda against the President of the United States to the voting public days before the election. This is a biased and unfair choice with no counter film to show about Romney and his blatant lies. I suggest that the Free Library cancel this plan immediately. I would hope that the Free in Rogers Free Library would mean BIPARTISAN.

@ Susan why don't YOU set up and sponsor a "left -wing" film. The people at the library are great people to work with.

Obviously A Library named after Roger Williams is for all free Speech. If you have a Romney Movie of the same quality and depth as this is nothing stopping you from showing there also. Have you seen the Movie by the way? Everything it can be verified since it uses actual interview and writings from the President in his own words.

So I guess by your standards, the President is lying. When you watch a movie it is up to the individual to make up thier own mind on whether they believe the Documentry or not. just saying

Susan, are there books on the shelves that you would ban? It's all about free speach, isn't it?

Rogers Free Library regulations/policy states: "No inflammatory or Political films may be shown." This movie is clearly both.

Susan, Have you seen the film? It is neither inflammatory or political. It is a documentary.

Of course Jack Baillargeron and Marina Peterson will be getting front row seats for this movie-anything that furthers their right wing teabagger cause.

The fact that this piece of trash movie is being shown in a PUBLIC library is nothing short of disgusting.

Approximately 50 people came to see the film. All agreed it was objective and informative. Everyone came away with a much better understanding of President Obama's background and philosophies.

If you want to know the truth about Obama's life from an objective reporter (not by right winger D'Souza, who by the way was recently stripped of his presidency from Kings College NY for checking into a hotel with a student, and he is married) then read BARACK OBAMA the Story, by David Maraniss. He traveled the world for three years and interviewed hundreds of people for first hand info on Obama and his life story, and researched his geneology from Africa to Kansas, and searched all pertinent documents. Now, that is objective...if, of course, you want objectivity.

It was my understanding that he and his wife had been separated for two years and were in the process of getting divorced. I believe he is engaged to the young woman in question.

The book sounds great! I have ordered it. From the reviews that I have read it seems very similar to the movie... in that it focuses on his early life and what shaped his beliefs. His own book is quoted a lot in the movie, but it appears that the author of this book feels that Obama's own book is not correct when it describes his thoughts about race. I look forward to reading it!

Marina....it is not all guts and glory, but what the book does show is the depth of his character from a very young age. He had a very dfficult life, missed his mother terribly, tried hard to fit in at his schools in Hawaii where was called a racist name for black. In college he surrounded himself with international students and friends and was always discussing international policy and was a very worldly, well traveled, and curious young man. The book ends when he ran for political office in Chicago. When you read it, the thought will occur to you that it seems impossible for him to ever grow up and become President. That is really the strength of our nation....that indeed, it WAS possible. Enjoy.
I appreciate the fact that you are interested in reading it.

I am very interested in reading it! It sounds very much like the movie, which also shows his depth of character and the sadness of his childhood. After viewing the movie I have a new empathy for him and a better understanding of his views. They may not concur with mine, but I have a better comprehension of why he feels the way he does, and what drives him. When he received the phone call that his father had died, and his subsequent visit to Kenya, the viewer can feel the amount of pain and loss that he was experiencing. His mission to make his father proud of him is compelling.
Again, while I don't agree with most of his policies, I better understand the man.
