An All-Natural Solution to Killing Insects
Our first blog post was about ticks and how this spring means more ticks and offered tips on how to combat them. If you think this is going to be a bad tick season, you can imagine how bad the insects will be this spring…particularly fleas. While there are many products out there for this problem, we suggest one all-natural solution that kills a whole range of insects using a unique formula.

Also known as "insect dust," Diatomaceous Earth controls and kills ants, ticks, fleas, cockroaches, earwigs, palmetto bugs and soft body crawling insects. Diatomaceous Earth consists of fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae. Wakefield Prescription has a great recipe for dealing with Carpenter Ants. Especially effective indoors. Main ingredient is boric acid. It is kind of neat to watch these unwanted pests gorge themselves with the solution. It works.

If it helps any and all the solution to eliminate carpenter ants:
1 part "20 mule team" borax laundry detergent
10 parts sugar
mix with water to make a sweet poison drink for these guys.
Many people kill ants as they see them which does not resolve the issue - putting this mix in the path of ants will ensure that they easily find and drink it....all it takes is for one to find the mix inviting many others to the party. After filling up the ants will then return to the nest feeding others the sweet poison eventually wiping out the nest.

Ah, wish I had known about this last fall! No matter how many times we cleaned and treated the dogs, their bedding, the house... we just haven't been able to get rid of their fleas all winter because it was such a mild winter. We spent a small fortune on anything we thought might work! Little did we know that we had the answer in the house (for our pool filter) all along! Thanks for sharing.

Leave it to "concerned resident" to tell us how to mass-poison wildlife. Always hateful and negative! My solution is to relocate them to the NKGOP members houses (Except Doreen Costa), and let them eat, if that also drives out any of the NKGOP, so much the better for our community. Ray, I always use a tennis racket. I am sure the neighbors think I am crazy... Greg, I broke down and called SHS Pest last year and so far they have not been back! We had a ton of them and they were statring to get a bit mean. It was a well spent $120.

seriously, for ants go to bugspray.com and buy maxforce granules. it's a bait/slow poison you sprinkle around and it does work. the borax idea also supposedly works but I went with maxforce and it wiped out the carpenter ants eating my tree (last year and they havent been back) plus I had hundreds of small brown ants and ant hills in my driveway and they vanished too in a couple weeks.

Greg and Ray, you can sprinkle diatomaceous earth on the bee nests or the areas around them. The diatomaceous earth is strong enough to get rid of any bug.
