Freedom of Expression

I just witnessed one of the most appaling insulting, inappropriate and insensitive acts occuring in front of our post office. There are two people from the LaRouche Movement who have set up a stand with a big signs to impeach President Obama.

I would have no problem with their freedom of expression except for the fact
that they have 3-foot pictures of our president painted with a Hitler moustache.

I told them exactly what I thought. If they don't like the man is one thing, but to disrespect the Office of the President of the United Sates is an insult to our country and all those who have served and died to protect our freedom.

It is also insensitive to the 5 million Jewish people who were killed
during the Holocaust. I told them they were lucky to be living in a country
that allowed this abhorrent behavior becasue if they were some other countries
they would have been shot or had their heads chopped off within five minutes.

God Bless America!

And if you're wondering about the LaRouche Movement, Lyndon LaRouce was a
presidential candidate eight times between 1976 to 2004, running once for his
own U.S. Labor Party and campaigning seven times for the Democratic Party nomination.

He was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment in 1988 for conspiracy to commit
mail fraud and tax code violations, and was released in 1994 on parole. Ramsey
Clark, who was LaRouche's chief appellate attorney and a former U.S. Attorney
General, said that LaRouche was denied a fair trial. The Court of Appeals
unanimously rejected the appeal. Justice done.

I agree with your post Bryan, however this is nothing new and these people have been doing the every election years at the post office. Everyone should disagree with it.

However we also know there were no articles or letters around here that I recall in this state on the Bush Hitler moustache or him hanging for that matter, by the party in power, yes there were signs carried protest in Providence Bush Hitler moustache, hanging for that matter.

We know full well no outcry when The head of the House (pelosi) called Americans Protesting (TeaParty) astro turf and compared them to Nazi's, which is on video. We heard not a peep condemning her from Head of the Senate (Reid) or (Pres. Obama) nor anyone from the party in power.

Having been to the Holocaust, museum in Washington, where they will tell you they have no problem with this, as it proves their point of how 1 man can start as nothing and rise to kill 6 or more million people (not 5) and it keeps it in the public eye least we forget these atrocities and so many others in history.

I do find it amusing that the letter writer (Though I agree fully with him on this), does seems to have a problem with freedom expression when it came to the BCWA,EBEC etc in my opinion.

However when you are running for a new office in Bristol (Town Administrator) It is expected to see a lot more of this I guess lol.
To the La nuts, you know where you can go, and it will be even hotter than today is for sure. ;-}

Bryan is absolutely correct.

IMO and IMO only freedom of speech has been neutered beyond repair with various legal terms which make free speech a crime when it offends someones sensibility - it becomes 'hate speech' .

When something is so outrageous that no reasonable person would believe it then it is not a hate crime but just bad taste. Bryan is an avowed conservative and he doesn't believe it so why should that be a crime or some other concocted term designed to prevent free speech.

What I find amusing is that it is the so called liberals (I am independent and this is one of those issues where I will be labeled a conservative because there can only be one or the other or so it seems) are the ones who fight to deny free speech.

The Irish were under the thumb of the Penal Laws (banning the language or the teaching of it, banning land ownership, etc (google it) for centuries and millions starved during the potato famine while Britain exported record amounts of food out of Ireland in the same time frame. But when Patrick Kennedy was in Congress I read and heard hundreds and hundreds of jokes about the Irish being drunks etc.

So we also have a double standard in regards to what is acceptable hate speech. Again it only applies when one party has their sensibilities offended.

Bryan, I thought the same thing. This transcends any political affiliation.

I don't recall Hitler 'staches on Bush's picture... but then again, I was young, stupid (not that I'm not stupid now) and not involved in politics at all...

But I would have been insulted then, too.

Jack - Is there no subject that you won't pontificate on ad infinitum? Freedom of speech is one thing and the right to express your opinion is another but there are limits! You can say, "If you don't like my posts, don't read them!". Fine - I don't. Most of them are so filled with spelling and gramatical errors as to be unreadable anyway. Find another hobby. Take up walking. Or knitting. Or anything! Just give blogging a rest! Thanks!

Darn, forgot one. More ad infinitum. lol

Pontificate on ad infinitum? Why no I will not, but would appreciate a list of ones I am not allowed to pontificate on ad infinitum? After all if you are going to eliminate my rights of free speech, does it not behoove you to list exactly what “Blogs” you will not allow free speech and how many I am allowed, before you send the “Secret Police” and throw me in the gulag there “Vladimir Putin”? ROFLMAO

Not to mention what the fines and the gulag sentence is for grammatical errors and spelling.

Ironic that you do this on a “Blog” about “Freedom of Expression” don’t you think? Do you also belong to the “LaRouche Movement” ? You seem to have their values. You’re not one of those down there with the sign are you? lol Just wondering?

Let me see now in order.

Anything I won't have an opinion hmmmmm. No

There are limits! Have not violated any limits of free speech. Could enlighten me on that, oops, wait you're not reading it.

Don't read them!". Fine - I don't. lol obvious you have read them. Obvious a lie. lol

Errors; If you can't read them because of errors then how did you read them? Another lie obviously. lol

Free country, I have many Hobbies. Not that you have any right to tell me what ones.

I do walk.

I am a qualified Tailor, and I actually can knit too. Not that it is your business. lol

I will give up blogging if you have the guts to come make me, but since you do not have the guts to name yourself; it must be you're a coward with delusions godhood or tough guy on line, hiding anonymously, because there is no courage to face a real live person.

But unlike you, I say; hey free country, you want to try and act like some tough Stalinist and squelch my free speech, anonymously? Have at it.

I love cowards on here, they amuse me. lol

I figure I can say what I want to a Stalinist like you, that hates America and the Constitution. you’re not going to read it. lol

You say you do not read my post. lol. I am confused on how that works, but hey cowards are not my forte. lol

Thank for the laugh and asinine post. It was amusing if not so full of ignorance of freedom of speech lol.

Oh and on another note, no thanks people like you are boring.

This issue is similar to the flag admendment that failed to pass because of Honest Linc Chaffee. Our flag is the symbol of our country, we plegde our algegence to it, we bury our veterans with it, It is flown on every government bldg, every town and city, and is carried by our military where ever they go. It showed not be burned out of protest. I agree, you can dislike the person in the position but do not dishonor the office.

Unfortunately, in Bristol we have some members of our Town Council who take great delight in humiliating and degrading people who choose to express their first amendment rights and speak at town meetings. Some of the comments are "way over the top", especially coming from town leaders. I hope we see a change with the next election.
