Three Important Things To Do After A Car Accident

Auto accidents are unexpected and sudden, but their impacts can be shocking and even life changing.  Oftentimes, the drivers and passengers of cars are unsure of what to do and what not to do.  Knowing how to handle the situation will reduce the stress caused by an auto accident and may even protect one’s rights.  Here are three important things that you need to do after an auto accident.

Prioritize safety.

The first thing you should do take time to assess the situation.  Determine whether there are any serious injuries that require immediate medical attention.  Next, call the police to insure that accident is officially recorded.  While you are waiting for the police you should put your emergency lights on to notify other drivers that an accident has occurred and they should exercise caution.

Gather information.

After the safety concerns of all of the drivers and passengers have been addressed you should begin gathering information.  Get the other driver’s name, phone number, vehicle registration information, and insurance information.  Additionally, you need to get the contact information of anybody who witnessed the accident.  Next, you should take photographs of the scene and any injuries or property damage.  Finally, record information such as the condition of the road, the weather, and the position of the vehicles.

Protect your rights.

You should never admit liability to the other driver or offer any form of compensation.  After a car accident, you need to protect any potential legal claims by not admitting liability.  Additionally, you should contact an automobile crash attorney because they have the knowledge and experience to represent your interests to the other parties in the accident and insurance companies.

Isn't getting "accident" advice from these guys a bit like getting relationship advice from Taylor Swift?

Funny how all that advice is in the accident pack your Insurance Company gives you.

I remember an old adage of "If your getting a lawyer from a TV ad, then it is the same as the old saying of a person who represents themselves has a fool for a lawyer" applies as well. lol

I have two comments:

1) In the old world of print journalism, an "article" like this would have had "PAID ADVERTISEMENT PAID ADVERTISEMENT PAID ADVERTISEMENT" clearly labeled at the top and bottom of the text.

2) Concerning this sentence:

-- Additionally, you should contact an automobile crash attorney because they have
-- the knowledge and experience to represent your interests to the other parties in
-- the accident and insurance companies.

Is it really necessary to do this? Wouldn't the "crash attorney" chase the ambulance all the way to the scene of the accident, sorta the way that children get excited when they hear the bells of the ice cream truck?

Meh.

Local Bargain Jerk - It's not a paid ad, so your label would've been misleading. It's under our local voices label, not news. You're welcome to start your own blog.

-- Local Bargain Jerk - It's not a paid ad, so your label would've been misleading.

I was trying to make a point via sarcasm. It was probably a not a good approach and it looks like I missed the mark. I'll try and think of another more lucid way to present my thoughts next time.

Unlike the author of this blog post, I'm not trying to sell anything. When the day comes that I do have similar goods or services to sell, I'll just put on my loud plaid suit, my matching vinyl white belt and shoes, and my genuine "crash attorney" fedora. Then, I'll advise people that when they're in a car accident, they should flip on their emergency flashers, slip on their hard-plastic neck brace, and speed-dial their lawyer ... not necessarily in that order.

I had your Law Firm eight year ago, and you took me down the river. All your firm wants is for a person to settle as soon as possible, so you can grab your money and run. I would not recommend your firm to my worst enemy.

These ads are why everbody sues someone all the time. I can't believe that you need to advertise by writing a blog.

The best advice is to fill out the accident report after you call your insurance company. That's what you pay them for. They represent you to fend off these ambulance chasers.

True Gov I would justr add, never admit fault and never accuse the other involved at fault at the scene, and absolutly make sure you get name and badge number and a copy of the police report for your self to verify it is what you said to the police as soon as they have it available.

Also even if you do not feel injured at the time, should you feel anything out of the ordinary later go immediatly to the hospital and get it all recorded, do not wait!!!!

I know of so many times people getting hurt seriously but do not do this and then have a lot of trouble proving it was caused by the accident. The insurance Company can only be as good as the information you give it period. ;-}

I fail to see why so many people are upset by an article that advises people what to do if they have been seriously injured by a negligent driver. Lawyers are like cops...alot of people hate cops but when someone is breaking into their homes who do they call? The same goes here...it's easy to bash lawyers...but if someone is laid up from a serious injury in a car accident and the creditors are calling them up demanding payment...they are not going to call their priest are they?
