The Rhode Island Voter Coalition will be holding a forum for the candidates for Bristol Town Administrator, Representative for District 67, and Representative for District 68 on Saturday, Oct. 27.
This forum will be held at the Rogers Free Library, Herreshoff Room, 525 Hope St. in Bristol and will start at 10:30 a.m.
Rhode Island Voter Coalition (RIVC) is a non-partisan, open, fact-seeking, civil engagement group designed for the sole purpose of getting people involved in their government through an individual examination of their representation. We are not a fundraising tool nor do we offer endorsement. This event will allow the voters to directly pose questions to the candidates and educate them on the issues that are important to them. We not only believe that this will allow voters to choose the candidate that truly represents them, but also will hold some accountability to the promises given to the people by these representatives. This event is FREE and open to the public.
The following confirmed candidates will participate:
TOWN ADMINISTRATOR:
Tony Teixiera - I
David Barboza - D
REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 68
Mike Donahue - R
Ken Marshall - D
REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 67
Peter Costa - R
This is an opportunity for YOU the voter to meet face-to-face with the candidates and ask the questions that are important to you. Candidates will be given the opportunity to make a brief platform statement and then all of the questions will come from the audience, Town Hall style. Feel free to add your question to the comments section below.
The forum will be filmed and shown on Public Access Television.

I wanted to add to this that we will be doing the District Representatives first, followed by Town Administrator.

Mr Teixera is the only rational choice for Bristolians who love their town (as I do) and don't want to see it mis-managed and become a laughing stock if the other candidate were ever elected. Tony Only for Town Administrator!

Marina did you invite Ray Gallison (Rep District 69)? I know he's running unopposed but he represents a good size portion of Bristol and is actually my Rep.

Anthony, she only invites those that SHE wants to attend.

HI! No I didn't. I made a few calls to other candidates who were running unopposed and found that they did not want to attend. Ray is my rep as well. There are time constraints and I would rather give a s much time to the opposed candidates as possible.

Sure I can understand that. It's better to give the new voices more talk time than to listen sometimes to the old political sound bytes from the incumbents, especially after they(incumbents) rattle on at times, after the timer goes off.

Is Jan Malik going to be there?
Richard Silva

Andrea, Jan's district (67) does not include any part of Bristol. I do not understand why he was invited to Bristol's forum.

We are having both districts 67 & 68 on 10/27. At the last election we had all of the candidates come to Bristol as well. Mr. Malik has told me that we would not be there, but on Thursday evening in Warren he mentioned that he "might" come. So I am not sure. His opponent will be there.

No Richard, you don't understand. At the last election we had the representatives come to Bristol as well. We had both reps and senators. This year many are running unopposed. After speaking with Senator Bates and Senator Felag we came to the conclusion that it would not be necessary to invite the unopposed candidates. If you disagree please contact Senator Felag.

And at last year's forum for district 67 which you also had in Bristol there were only five people in the audience from district 67. That makes no sense. They should have been included in the Warren forum. From what I understand Rep Malik was able to attend the Warren forum but Peter Costa was not. Marina was this another make it convenient for your candidate, Mr Costa, in this case.

Richard, I really can't be responsible for the fact that only five people showed up for the forum in 2010. It doesn't seem to be a draw for Warren voters. The one we had this year in Warren had only about 30 people. So it really doesn't seem to make a difference.
Please don't distort the facts. Jan Malik told me on the 16th (two days before the forum), that if I could get Peter there he would come to Warren. Two Days notice is really not a lot of time. I agreed to try and make the adjustment in program. I called Peter Costa and he was not available. I have never met Peter Costa and i don't know why you are referring to him as "my candidate"???

Mr Silva, you should know better. Does Marina know the difference between the truth In one article 20 people attended now its 30 attended. Tomorrow it will be 40 attended. She should look up defination of volunteer. She voluntered to film BCWA meetings to make them transparrent now she wants to be paid. Drinking to much tea I think

Are you the same Brian that is running for town council ?

Brian, if you are going to bring something up.. tell the whole story. I volunteered to tape the BCWA meetings for transparency. And I will continue to do so. When the BCWA embraced the initiative and added the link to my proprietorial site so that their ratepayers could view the videos I thought it was great! But if they are going to incorporate it into their site, then the least they could do is reimburse me for the $40.00 I pay to tape it. It seems like a win-win situation to me. I don't continue to carry the payment, and they have the much-needed appearance of transparency on their site. Everyone should be happy. That is, if you really want it taped.
As to the number of people at the forum, I counted they three times... 32 people. When the video comes out we can all count them together. :-)

Yes he is Gina, and I can't believe Brian and Richard are being continuously immature to this poor woman! I don't even know her, but you guys are supposed to be running for town council, You are both acting like children, slamming her for numbers. Who cares if it was 20 or 30, does that really make a difference? IF you guys put all of the effort that you dispense harrasing Marina, and used it to campaign, then maybe you guys would have a chance! Instead, people who read these forums are just seeing you two as cry babies. She doesn't have a vendetta against you two, or Malik. People are busy and sometimes can't attend, its not her fault. Nor is a small attendance number her fault. Seriously guys act your age, I don't even know hardly anything about your views, except that you hate the patch worker Marina.

Marina I am confused. When we spoke you suggested I be at the forum and after reading this blog I get the impression I am not to go.

Gracious no! We would love to have you there . We discussed you participating in the forum and you told me that you were unopposed and didn't think it necessary. I suggested that you attend anyway and I would introduce you to the attendees. Due to the overwhelming demand for forums this year throughout the state we decided to not include unopposed candidates. There are only 3 of us doing these forums and 39 towns. Also, when I first spoke to you it was scheduled for October 25th in the evening. Please note that we changed it to Saturday to accommodate David Barboza who could not make any of the previously offered dates. Hope to see you there
