Letter: Two Years To Win Your Trust

State representative-elect promises to work on making community stronger and prouder.

With the elections fully behind us, I felt the need and obligation to first and foremost thank the entire Bristol and Warren community for utilizing their Constitutional right to vote. Please thank a veteran for that right. Every day I have tried to respect your opinion via your voices and words, and recognize that every two years your vote represents your feelings. Having accepted the results, I would like to publicly announce that I believe that this election has enriched me personally by gaining a better appreciation for the political race, but more importantly, the benefit of having met a new Bristol family and friend in my competition, Michael Donahue. I realized early on that both he and Warren's John Hanley were in the race for …

Cicilline, Langevin, Whitehouse win Re-Election

Rhode Island voters favor Democrats in election.

It was a good night for Democrats Tuesday in Rhode Island. In Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District David Cicilline was able to win a second term against a tough race fought against Republican Brendan Doherty. The former head of the Rhode Island State Police strongly criticized Cicilline during the course of the campaign over his final leadership of the city of Providence when he was mayor for eight before heading to Washington two years ago. In the 2nd Congressional District James Langevin was able to win a seventh term over Republican Michael Riley. Riley reportedly lent his campaign more than $600,000. Langevin cited as accomplishments his work to maintain submarine production at Electric Boat and efforts to strengthen job training …

The results are in for Warren and Bristol. Check below to find out who was elected to in both towns. Antonio Teixeira began celebrating with 72 percent of the vote reported. At that point, he held a seemingly unbeatable 30 percent lead over Councilman David Barboza for Town Administrator. That lead held as the final votes came in. Warren Voters are split into three districts, voting at Kickemuit Village, Kickemuit Middle School and St. Mary of the Bay, respectively. The nine Bristol voting districts (1-9) vote at: Rockwell School, the Burnside Building, the Quinta-Gamelin Center, Mt. Hope High School, Fire Department …

Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges …

Yvette, look, you are attacking my patriotism because I don't think like you do, because you perceive me as, horror of horrors - a liberal. First and foremost, I am a patriot [Definition of PATRIOT (From Mirriam-Webster): one who loves his or her country and supports its authority and interests]. I've served my country during war-time, I've always held a job, paid my taxes, participated in our …   more ›

Turnout Looks Strong in Bristol

Long lines at some polling places mean lots of voters casting their ballots.

Voters waited more than half an hour to vote in some locations — even in the middle of the afternoon, a traditionally slower voting time — as Bristol residents flood the polls. Voter Jackie Savoie said she stood for 35 minutes to cast her vote at the Quinta-Gamelin Center, as voters — particularly those in the Q-Z line — lined up to wait their turn. At about 2:30 p.m., more than 1,200 votes had been cast at the center. The story is the same at other locations as Bristol residents turn out for their candidates. More than 700 voters cast their ballots at the Fire Department headquarters before 1 p.m., according to Antonio Teixeira, a candidate for Bristol Town Administrator.  "It's been very consistent with voters coming out," Teixeira said…

Smooth Sailing in Warren So Far

The town had a busy morning at the polls and at Town Hall, but so far no problems have been reported.

It was a "crazy morning," especially at Kickemuit Middle School and St. Mary of the Bay, but sor far, it's been smotth sailing at the polls in Warren. "So far so good," said Deputy Town Clerk Sandrea Speroni. "It was crazy this morning at St. Mary's and Kickemuit Middle and we've been busy in here. A lot of people coming in with a lot of questions." More than 600 people had voted at Kickemuit Middle School by about 11:30 a.m., according to Mary Ellen Key, election warden at the middle school. And it's expected to get even busier at all three polling places in Warren — St. Mary, the middle school and Kickemuit Village — especially around lunch time and dinner time, Speroni said. So expect big crowds after work when you head to the polls.
