Earth Day Cleanup at Farnham Farm
For the second year in a row, friends of Farnham Farm will be supporting their community by spring cleaning the grounds at the Farm. This Rain or Shine event will take place Saturday, May 12, from 10:00 am. to 1 pm.
Volunteers will don their gloves, remove debris from along the driveway and parking area, cut overhanging branches and vines and edge the driveway. At the gazebo, there will be weeding around the bricks and planting new native trees continuing the effort to restore indigenous trees at the Farm and beautify Sarah’s Path. Plus, there will be weeding of the perennial gardens in front of the Hope Brown Center and farmhouse.
"This is a fun event for kids and adults," said cleanup committee head Kathy Sohar. "We get a great bunch of people who care about their community and who understand the importance of being good caretakers of the environment. They also are teaching their kids how important this is."
Volunteers should dress for the weather, wear gloves and sturdy boots. Please bring your garden tools, wheelbarrows, string edgers/ trimmers and pickup trucks. Trash bags will be supplied. Please bring your own water bottle, sun, bug and poison ivy protection.
After sprucing up the Farm, attend the presentation of a commemorative plaque in recognition of Maggie and William Jiacovelli, who in 1998 made possible preservation of the farm and its 18 acres by the Prudence Conservancy, and join us for a bite to eat afterwards.
This is an excellent opportunity to share your appreciation of the Farm with your families and neighbors. Hope to see you there!
