DESCRIPTION:The Roger Williams University School of Law and the Office of
  Diversity &amp\; Outreach presents a celebration of the Rev. Dr. Martin
  Luther King\, Jr.'s contributions to the Civil Rights Movement.&nbsp\;\
 nA keynote address will be delivered by Jorge Elorza\, a professor of la
 w at Roger Williams University and judge presiding in the Providence Hou
 sing Court.\nRaised by Guatemalan immigrant parents in inner-city Provid
 ence\, Professor Jorge Elorza returned to his old neighborhood after his
  graduation from Harvard Law School to give back to his community&nbsp\;
 as an attorney for Rhode Island Legal Services. Professor Elorza has lit
 igated race discrimination cases and represented both private and public
  housing tenants in Rhode Island Courts. Professor Elorza continues his 
 work here at RWU as one of the moving forces and co-chair of the Latino 
 Policy Institute at Roger Williams University. This organization pulls t
 ogether resources from Rhode Island universities\, business firms and co
 mmunity-based organizations to provide a data-driven analysis of issues 
 relating to Latinos in Rhode Island. He has defended the constitutionali
 ty of the Rhode Island Lead Hazard Mitigation Act before the Rhode Islan
 d Supreme Court. Because of his expertise in housing matters\, he was re
 cently appointed to preside in the Providence Housing Court.\nProfessor 
 Elorza teaches Property\, Advanced Constitutional Law\, and Housing &amp
 \; Policy. His research interests are in the Economics of Housing Policy
  and the intersection of Law\, Science and Religion.\nA reception will f
 ollow the keynote address.\nThe event is open to the public and will be 
 held in the RWU School of Law Building\, Room 285\, 1 Old Ferry Road\, B
 ristol.
