Residents Evacuated after Flood

Sixty people are homeless, a firefighter was hurt and crews have been working around the clock after the Dean Estates apartment complex on Oaklawn Avenue was devastated by severe flooding that hit Cranston Monday afternoon.

Tuesday, Sept. 3

Councilor Seeks Answers on Day Care's Use of School

Last week, Newport City Council members voted down a request that the city solicitor investigate a private day care’s use of Coggeshall School for a summer camp. The day care, located at 38 Marcus Wheatland Blvd., is under investigation by Newport police and DCYF after the 17-year-old son of co-owner Gregory Johnson allegedly molested a 5-year-old girl while working at the center.

Tiverton Man Dies After Weekend Motorcycle Crash

A Tiverton man has died following a motorcycle crash this Labor Day weekend in Westport.

Man Points BB Gun at Trio Outside Burger King

On Aug. 23 at about 2:35 a.m., Woonsocket Police responded to Burger King on Social Street for a report of a man pointing a gun at boys riding their bikes nearby, eventually arresting Stephen Thomas Kreig, 39, of 122 Chester St., apt. 203.

Friday, Sept. 6

Two Cranston Men Charged in EBT Fraud Sting

Two Cranston men are facing federal charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, money laundering, wire fraud and other crimes after a two-year investigation into food stamp fraud at their Providence convenience stores.

Barrington Hearts Made a Lot Safer

Barrington is now a “heart safe" community. Fire Chief Gerald Bessette led a contingent of firefighters from Barrington and East Providence that made the announcement at the Town Council meeting on Tuesday night, Sept. 3.
