Hundreds of kids won't be shivering on their way to school this winter, thanks to the efforts of the owners of the Market Street Pub in Warren and generous donations from around the area.
Winter jackets in all shapes, sizes and colors line the Market Street Pub after a coat drive last weekend. The Davok family, owners of the pub, asked guests to bring a new or gently used jacket to a party over the weekend. Hundreds turned out to donate.
"It's amazing, in a tough economy that people give this stuff away," said Amy Dovak, one of the pub's owners and organizers of the drive. "People just keep bringing bags of jackets in." The jackets will be donated to an inner-city school in Providence, which did not want to be named. Money donated to the cause will also go to the school.
The Market Street Pub isn't finished with its philanthropy, planning a breast cancer awareness event on Nov. 3, and considering a prom dress drive in the spring. If you have a coat to donate, stop into the pub or call 401-245-8810 for more information.
