Snow Winds Down as Deep Freeze Sets In

Snowfall totals are about what was expected for most of RI — 6-11 inches. A wind chill advisory is in effect.

As the snow winds down, the bitter cold has settled in.

While the sun is peaking out and skies will be clear, temperatures won't climb above the low teens across much of Rhode Island today. Strong winds will continue through the day, gusting as high as 45 mph. Dangerous wind chills are expected and the feel-like temperature will drop as low as 9 below 0. A wind chill advisory is in effect through 9 a.m. Saturday. The deep freeze will continue through Friday night before warming into the mid-20s Saturday afternoon.

A meltdown will begin Sunday, however, as temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-40s and remain there through Monday before dropping back into the 20s on Tuesday.

While some flakes are still flying around parts of Rhode Island, the bluk of the storm is over. Another inch or so may fall in some spots this morning before clearing out for good by noon. Snowfall totals across much of the state are about as expected — 6-11 inches.
