International choreographer Helen Simoneau to perform in RWU's Dance Theatre Series

On Saturday, September 29, the Roger Williams University Dance Theatre Basement Series Performance will feature award-winning choreographer and dancer Helen Simoneau. The Basement Series is an informal, intimate performance opportunity for guest artists and student performers. Simoneau, who is an RWU Dance Theatre Guest Artist, will perform her original choreography in the basement studio of the Performing Arts C interenter.

Simoneau’s performance of “The Gentleness Was in Her Hands” was awarded first place for choreography at the International Solo-Tanz-Theatre Festival in Germany and was the winner of the A.W.A.R.D. Show! 2010: New York City. She describes the piece as having an “eerie, doll-like quality with exquisitely intimate moments.” Simoneau has toured internationally and nationally, performing the solo at renowned dance festivals and venues.

Visiting guest artists offer additional styles and viewpoints to modern dance through residencies and repertory work. Simoneau is guest teaching all technique classes for the Roger Williams Dance Program during her residency on campus this week, and 12 members of the RWU Dance Theatre will perform her work, “Flight Distance II.”
