Can you sing? Can you dance? Do you like to perform?
The Bristol Theatre Company is inviting you to audition for its May performances of “Once On This Island.”
Auditions are Sunday, Jan. 26, from 3 to 6 pm and Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Reynolds School, 235 High St.
The show is an adaptation of the fairy tale, “The Little Mermaid.” It is described as non-stop song and dance with Caribbean-style, contemporary music from Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. It is directed by Richard Bento.
The show tells the story of a peasant girl, Ti Moune, who rescues and then falls in love with a wealthy boy, Daniel, from the other side of the island. When Daniel returns to his people, the gods who rule the island send Ti Moune on a quest against prejudice, hatred and death to test her love for him.
Auditions are for male and female storytellers ages 10 to adult, male and female gods ages 14 to adult, and one female age 6 to 8.
You should prepare an upbeat musical theater number and bring sheet music to the audition. An accompanist will be hand. You also be asked to dance and do a cold reading from a script. Wear attire appropriate for the dance.
Show dates are Friday to Sunday, May 16-18. Click here to see the Bristol Theatre Company website.
