The Holidays Have Arrived at The Maher Garden Center!

If you are going to buy a tree this year, you could not do better than to buy one from the Maher Center.

The James L. Maher Center; a not-for-profit organization that supports hundreds of children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities, and just as meaningfully, provides peace of mind and hope to their families, has off loaded the first of 1,400 Balsam & Frasier Fir Christmas trees that are expected to sell in anticipation of a very Merry Christmas this year.

Christmas Trees

The first shipment of trees trucked in from Bangor, Maine range in height between five feet and twelve feet arrived on November 26th.

The second batch will be arriving on Monday December 3rd.  As with other retail establishments, this holiday season is the major event of the year.

The clients of the Center who work there year-round look forward to this season because it is so much fun for them, providing an opportunity to visit with customers from years past, and a chance to make new friends of people visiting the Garden Center perhaps for the first time.

The trees represent the season; the smiling faces represent the spirit of the season.  If you are going to buy a tree this year, you could not do better than to buy one from the Maher Center.

Open House Event

Sunday, December 9th between 1 and 4pm, is the garden center’s annual “open house” event.  Warm apple cider and treats will be everywhere.”  While enjoying the holiday cheer, you will be able to browse the many items that our participants have had a hand in making. All of our poinsettia plants were planted and nurtured by the individuals we support since late summer.  Along with those beautiful flowers, we specialize in hand-decorated wreaths from 12”-36”, bows (handmade), one-of-a-kind fresh centerpieces, and boxwood trees. The garden center also has beautiful memorial pots, bundles of brush, hand tied garland, swags and so much more.” – says Dr. Barry Zeltzer the Maher Center’s newly appointed Chief Executive Officer.

The Maher Center has a reputation of being well run and well managed, with staff dedicated to providing the highest quality of services. In the most recent year, close to 300 people participated in work opportunity programs; over 100 received residential services; almost 90 children and families benefited from Early Intervention; and literally thousands of people in the East Bay reached their destinations because of RIde transportation services.  These services include a wide array of opportunities for people with differing abilities … from Early Intervention for infants and toddlers, to support for people with disabilities who also experience the added complications of aging, such as Alzheimer’s disease.
