5 Things: Cancer Survior Shares Experience

Here are 5 Things to know today and this weekend in Bristol and Warren.

1. It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Follow along with cancer survivor Judy Fitzgerald as she blogs her experiences and shares lessons for staying healthy and helping prevent the disease. Give Thursday's installment a read here and check back each weekday at 2 p.m. throughout the month of October for a new submission.

2. Pick up fresh local produce, dairy, flowers pastries and much more atthe farmer's markets at Mount Hope Farm, 250 Metacom Ave, Bristol, today 9 a.m. to noon.

3. While you're headed to the market, bring some gently used clothing and small household items to be recycled for a great cause — all while shopping for fresh local food — as Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State host a clothing drive at the Mount Hope Market from 9 a.m. to noon.

4. The Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter have partnered with Alfred's Gifts & Antiques to put together a huge flea market. Donate and go shopping to help homeless animals in need. Call 401-457-8581 for information on how to donate. The organizers ask that no exercise equipment, bicycles, golf clubs, electrical appliances, baby cribs, clothing or luggage be donated.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Veterans of Foreign Wars, 850 Hope St, Bristol. A $1 enterance donation to the shelter will be collected at the door.

5. Don't put the shorts away just yet! Summer-like temperatures are expected to return today with highs approaching 80 degrees under sunny skies.
