Enjoy Sounds of Women Songwriters or 'Go NUTS!' for 2nd Story Theatre's Latest Show

Summer is in full swing in the area, with many outdoor and indoor activities to enjoy or inspire you. Get Out and Enjoy Your Weekend!

Check out the special courtroom drama event staged by this weekend at the Old Bristol State House, rock climb in Barrington or head over to Aquidneck Island for a Shakespearean concert or English tea party. There is lots to do this weekend in and around town; we’ve collected some ideas for you, and as always, check our events calendar daily so you don’t miss a thing.

  1. "Go NUTS" at the State House
    When/Where: Old Bristol Statehouse, 240 High St., Bristol, performances Thursdays at 7 pm; Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 3 pm, through June 26.
    Why Go:  Another superb show staged by 2nd Story Theatre in Warren, although this special courtroom drama event takes place in the old Bristol Statehouse on High Street.
    Pricing: $27; call for reservations as some performances may sell out.
  2. RI Great Outdoors Pursuit
    When/Where:  Haines Memorial State Park, which is off Metropolitan Park Drive @ the Barrington and East Providence border, Sunday, June 12 from 11 am to 3 pm.  
    Why Go:  Get Out There! The event is the second in a summer-long series of events to encourage families to try new outdoor adventures at Rhode Island state parks that promote healthier lives and environmental conservation.  Must at least be a team of two: Please check the web site for more information. Rock climbing, displays and more.  (This same event comes to Colt State Park in July.)

  3. Shakespearean Concert at the Abbey
    When/Where: Portsmouth Abbey School Auditorium, 285 Corys Lane, Portsmouth, Friday, June 10 at 6 pm.
    Why Go: New England’s top musicians gather together to present an evening of orchestral music inspired by the writings of William Shakespeare. The concert will take place during the Portsmouth Institute, a three-day conference being held at Portsmouth Abbey School.

  4. An English Garden Party
    When/Where:  , 55 Vaucluse Ave, Middletown, June 11, 1-5 pm
    Why Go: Celebrate an old-fashioned English tea and garden party, with something for all ages. Four Tea Seatings, Children's Tea, entertainment, games, Barbershop Quartet, Flower Festival, Plant Sale, Treasure Trove sale, Hat Contest, Book Sale, Petting zoo, Pony Rides, Balloon Animals and more.

  5. Women Songwriters in Warren
    When/Where: Saturday, June 11, 8 pm-10:30 pm, , 25 Church St, Warren.
    Why Go:  Enjoy a show by members of the RI Women’s Songwriters Association.  Always a favorite show at Church Street Coffeehouse!Pricing:  $10 at the door and refreshments will be available
  6. Take Yourself Out to the Ball Game
    When/Where:  June 10 at 6:35 pm is the Season Opener for the Newport Gulls, a New England Collegiate summer baseball team whose home games are played at Cardines Field, Newport. Check the web site for additional dates.
    Why Go: Great fun for all ages, with much less travel and parking hassle than a bigger-league ball game.
    Pricing: Adults 18 and Over $4.00; children 13-18, military ID and seniors, $2; under 12 $1
