What Would You Put Here: Child St.

You be the planner: Tell us what you would put in these empty storefronts.

Just steps from busy Main Street in Downtown Warren, surrounded by businesses in operation, stand three empty storefronts just waiting for something new.

Surrounded by White Tiger Martial Arts, the Blue Horse, Quality Consignment, Samantha's and Warren Art Spot, 11, 18, and 22 Child Street sit empty, their front windows boarded or papered over.

If you had your say, what would you put in these storefronts? Let us know in the comments section below what type of businesses you would like to see to further revitalize the area.

I would love to see a bakery come to Warren. I would also like to see a candy store with home made chocolate and fudge.

I'd like to see a place where kids would want to hang out.

If there was an even concern over all parts of town other than Water Street I believe it would help some...

I agree though...a bakery would be nice...a small version of a drugstore which carries more than Delekta's & open more hours would be beneficial as well. Anything really...other than more antique stores which are of no use to the average towns folk.

Where do you park?

Parking is a major concern, and add Samantha's to the empty store front list, as they are closed for good, from what I hear. A bakery opened on child St where its now an antique store, and that didn't last very long. Another store on Child. St that seems cursed, is the location of the Purple Lady/Antique Store/Virginia's Variety, and more, seems to have about 4 months of life, before going out of buisness. Due to the economy, not many customers are availible to keep small bakeries, candy stores, or a small pharmacy with no parking, open for buisness. I went into Warren Mart, near the new Vinny's Kitchen, and it was run down, empty shelfs and coolers, except a few cloudy ones up front. That store is a reflection of the economic depression on Child St. What about angles, closer to the Metacom light? That place has been rundown for over a decade, and nobody dares to relocate there.

I never really thought about the parking situation.....definitely a major issue. But...Bristol has many of these types of businesses on Hope Street downtown...and on Wood Street and they really don't have much room for parking either. I actually think that Bristol is worse now due to all the parking spaces that were removed with the new design down there. I just think that even when times are tough there are things people still won't sacrifice...like cake, cookies and a fresh loaf of bread to go with dinner :)...trying to be a little lighthearted about it but in a way I'm serious. The bakery that turned into another antique shop was too far off the beaten path...Something further uptown might be able to pull it off. How about a dollar store...just a smaller version ?...I don't know really. I'm not a business person so I'm not sure what the answer is...but there has got to be one. There are way too many boarded up windows in this town.....everywhere.

Folks, we have a bakery. A very good one. In addition to Elsie's Bakery in the Job Lot plaza, there is a Family Dollar. I doubt a "smaller" version could compete with a dollar store chain. But what else do we locals need? It's a good question.

I'm not sure we can all agree on Elsie's being very good...:)...my taste in baked goods may be different, but Elsie's is the last place I will go for cake or pies etc...I would go to Vienna in Barrington or even Stop & Shop before I go there. But I'm Italian and Elsies caters more to the Portuguese so that may be part if it.

A soap shop just opened on Main Street...and there is the dog bakery as well. There is a yarn shop and a record store....pretty soon we will have a shoe store again...we have many antique and consignment shops and art galleries...so many restaurants and soon ( if the voters approve) we will have Hope & Main...we have such a variety to offer people...perhaps it's the marketing....Warren is a great "product"...
