What Would You Put There?

Space is available in Belltower Plaza. What should go there?

Belltower Plaza contains a mix of retail, office and medical facilities. And it has a spot available for another business.

Anchored by , Belltower Plaza on Metacom Avenue has more than 2,600 square feet of space available. The contiguous parcels have 925 and 1,726 square feet in the right rear corner of the plaza. The space sits between and accounting firm.

But what would be best in that space? Should it be a retail store, a new restaurant or some kind of entertainment facility? What other possibilities are there? Put on your thinking caps and give us your best suggestion for what should be the next Belltower Plaza business.

I truly enjoy reading Patch...However, this "What would you put there" segment is getting lame.

I never understand the point of these "What Would You Put Here?" articles. Specifically, unless I or any other reader is willing to sign the lease and pay the rent, it doesn't matter what we think. What will be put there is a business that someone believes will be successful. Whether that's a ticket broker, a blacksmith, a bordello, a bar, or a beach ball emporium is up to the business owner who thinks he/she can make a go of it. If you asked this question of: 10 5-year-olds, they'd all say "an ice cream stand!". 10 college age males, they'd all say "a bar!" 10 older ladies, they might say "Replace the sewing/crafts store that was once there!" And all their perspectives would be equally valid to any 10 other readers of this website. But none of them would matter because the man/woman who commits to the lease has final say. I could be missing something, but I'm pretty sure I'm not.

I think it's more about what you'd like to see in your community that you feel is lacking in the area. The info from the community is important to the land owner because the will want to put in a business that the area will value and go to regularly. Community feedback is extremely important. Never under estimate the power of the people!

Chris is exactly right. The goal of What Would You Put There is to get people talking about what the community needs or wants. Hopefully, if enough people share a suggestion, it can have some impact on the town/property owners. But even if it doesn't, residents can have the chance to pose ideas and express their opinions. And just have fun speculating about what may be the next business in town.

We already have enough overpriced cutsie little tourist trap shops, bars & restaurants in the area. Too many in my opinion to be successfully supported. How many do we need to see close their doors after the novelty wears off before anyone gets the message. Something different & unique is the way to go. And remember whatever goes there will be buried in the corner of that strip mall.
