Trinchero Napa Valley B.Y.O.B Dinner

Never been to a BYOB wine dinner?
(No, it's not a dinner where you bring your own wine!)

Join Grapes & Grains and Pizzico Barrington for a premier event:

Rhode Island's First Public Build Your Own Bordeaux Dinner
with Trinchero Napa Valley.

Tuesday, March 25th, 6:30pm

A special evening of incredible food, limited wine &
an opportunity to BYOB!

Trinchero Napa Valley's Paul Canavan and Helder Medeiros will take us on a tour through the diverse, estate vineyards of Trinchero Napa Valley and the unique wines each site produces.  To conclude the meal, guests will be given the components of Trinchero's esteemed Meritage so that they may walk in the shoes of winemaker Mario Monticello and see if they have what it takes to compose one of the finest Meritage blends produced in California.

Trinchero Napa Valley focuses purely on Bordeaux varietals and they have more than 100 acres of vines planted throughout the valley.  While Napa Valley is just 35 miles long, it contains an extraordinary combination of diverse soils and microclimates ideally suited for growing Bordeaux varietals.  From the Vista Montone vineyard at the southern entrance of the valley influenced by cool morning fog of San Pablo Bay-  to Trinchero's first estate property, Mary's Vineyard, planted on the valley floor north of Calistoga, guests will be given a taste of Napa Valley terroir in its entirety.

Intrigued? Read on for details on the wines you'll taste...

Wines bearing the Trinchero Napa Valley label are luxury class, single-vineyard, wines from estate owned Napa Valley sites.

Each wine is carefully handcrafted and produced in limited quantities. Grapes are sourced from more than 100 acres of estate vineyards in prime Napa Valley appellations, including St. Helena, Mount Veeder, Rutherford and Atlas Peak. The Trinchero family has been making wine in the Napa Valley since 1948, and Trinchero Napa Valley serves to honor the legacy of founder Mario Trinchero.

2012 Mary's Vineyard Sauvignon blanc
$20 retail/ $18 event

"Mary's Vineyard is a warm place to grow aromatic whites and I have been pleased with the balance of ripe fruit and acidity in the grapes from this vineyard. The wine is fermented entirely in stainless steel, with no oak-I like my white wines clean and refreshing. It is unmistakably Sauvignon Blanc with subtle hints of wet limestone, yet also boasts warm Napa Valley stonefruit and tropical aromas and flavors complimented by a round mouthfeel and a refreshing citrus undercurrent in the finish."
- Mario Monticelli, winemaker

2009 "Daybreak Block" Vista Montone Vineyard Merlot
$40 retail/ $36 event

"This is our most southern vineyard and is not very vigorous due to the cool microclimate. Bud break happens early, but then we don't end up picking until mid-October. However, despite this cool microclimate, this is not a timid wine and often is mistaken for a Cabernet. It is very new-world style with structured and gregarious tannins. It has layered aromas of cassis, vanilla, black fruit and violets leading into luscious and concentrated bright red and black fruit flavors with hints of tea and spice."
- Mario Monticelli, winemaker

2009 Chicken Ranch Vineyard Cabernet sauvignon
$40 retail/ $36 event

"This Cabernet bursts with bright red fruit aromas coupled with black cherry and cranberry flavors. It is old world in style with its cigar box, mineral and savory aromas, structured tannins and good acidity. The Rutherford location, coupled with the vineyard's rich organic soil and our current biodynamic practices lead to a wine that really expresses its terroir."
- Mario Monticelli, winemaker

2010 Cloud's Nest Cabernet sauvignon*
$80 retail/ $75 event

"Ash, tar, smoke, incense and grilled herbs burst from the glass as the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Cloud's Nest shows off its superb pedigree and class. The Cloud's Nest captures the purest essence of Mt. Veeder in its inky black fruit,
savory herbs, pencil shavings and flowers. The tannins are firm, but also well integrated. This large scaled Cabernet Sauvignon will test readers' patience, but it is superb."
-Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate Issue #204 Dec 2012

*Note: Just 12 bottles of this incredibly special wine remain in the State of Rhode Island.  We'll be opening 6 bottles for guests to enjoy. The remaining six bottles may be reserved for purchase at special event pricing.

2008 Meritage $65 retail/ $60 event
"This is my favorite wine to make because, like having all of the crayons in the box, it lets me paint the prettiest picture.  Having an incredible arsenal of vineyards at my disposal enables me to make a wine with layers and layers of aromas and flavors.  Cabernet is the backbone, Merlot contributes to the mid-palate and the aromatics, Petit Verdot adds color and floral aromatics and Cabernet Franc elongates the finish."
- Mario Monticelli, winemaker
