'Grand Illumination' Ends Thanksgiving Weekend

The 26th annual event included music, entertainment, the announcement of this year's Spirit of Christmas Award winner and the tree lighting in front of the Burnside Building in Bristol.

Several hundred people braved soggy weather for the 26th annual “Grand Illumination” that ended a long Thanksgiving weekend in Bristol on Sunday evening, Dec. 1.

The ceremony took place as always in front of the Burnside Building on Hope Street next to Town Hall. The event included caroling, music and entertainment that kicked off about an hour before the illumination.

The Christmas Festival actually started much earlier in the day at Mt. Hope High School with a breakfast with Santa Claus at 8 am and children’s activities until noon.
