Veterans Home Hosts Annual Bristol Vets Day Ceremony

Bristol Veterans Day ceremony includes wreath-laying at Honor Roll Garden.

As it does each year, Bristol’s Veterans Day ceremony will center on those who live at the RI Veterans Home off of Metacom Avenue. You are invited.

The ceremony will start at 11 am after an interfaith service at 9:30 am, said Carl Antonevich of the Bristol Veterans Council.

“Everything will be held outside under a large tent,” he said.

The ceremony will include a cannon salute for each century of wars, the U.S. Coast Guard Color Guard, and a speech by Roger Williams University Professor Lynn Ruggieri, whose family includes many veterans, said Antonevich.

The ceremony also is expected to draw a host of federal, state and local officials to the Veterans Home, including either Gov. Lincoln Chafee or Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts.

Recognition of the veterans will actually begin earlier on Monday at 8:30 am at the Bristol War Veterans Honor Roll Garden near Town Hall, said Antonevich. A wreath will be laid there.
