Friends, Family Honor Anniversary of Warren Resident's Death

Friends and family of the late Katheryn "Katia" Cabral, of Warren, celebrated her life on Monday evening by hosting a concert at the to benefit the .

Joyce Katzberg, Cabral's neighbor and friend, hosted the event in honor of the one year anniversary of her death. Cabral, 56, was found dead inside the rear of a  at Gull Cove in Portsmouth on Dec. 17, 2010. 

"We wanted a chance to celebrate her life all together rather than all grieve alone," Katzberg said.

Katzberg said the inspiration for the event came from Cabral's passion for animals and music, so the benefit combined the two. Donations of "cash and kibble" were accepted at the door and donated to the Warren Animal Shelter.

Sally Sisto enjoyed the benefit, using it as a way to help her remember the life of a close friend.

"Right now I'm just remembering the brightness of her smile and her laugh," Sisto said. "She had friends everywhere and she was truly loved."

Jimmy Warren, Cabral's boyfriend for the past 17 years, was one of many performers during the evening's concert and said he was very happy to be part of the benefit.

"She would have loved this and been honored," Warren said. "But she is here with us tonight, I know she is."

Warren said the Coffee Depot was the perfect spot for the concert because Cabral loved the small coffee shop atmosphere and frequented the weekly poetry nights. Warren says he misses her smile and their musical bond the most.

"I remember her smile the most and how she had such amazing power in her performance," Warren said. "She got right into things and if she were performing tonight she would be in the middle of it all, soaking it up."

According to Katzberg, the event was a successful night of "raising hope, cash and kibble", netting a car full of pet food donations and more than $500 to go to the Warren Animal Shelter.

"We're very happy," Katzberg said. "After all, we're all in this together."
