Obituary: Louis M. "Duke" Mederios, 90, WWII Veteran, Raytheon Guard

Mr. Louis M. "Duke" Medeiros, age 90 of 32 Garfield Avenue, Bristol, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Jean L. (Longo) Medeiros, who preceded him in death in 2001.

Born in Taunton, MA and a Bristol resident for most of his life, he was the son of the late Theodomiro J. and Wilhelmina (Jesus) deMedeiros. He served in the US Navy during WWII as a Motor Machinist Mate First Class. Louis was a security guard for several years at the Raytheon Corp in Portsmouth, retiring a number of years ago. He had previously been an area supervisor for the former Zayres Departments Stores for many years. Louis was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol, he served on the Bristol Democratic Town Committee for many years and served in various offices, he was a former member of the Bristol Zoning Board and a past chairman, he was the Bristol Sewer Commissioner for a number of years. He was an active in the Navy "Submariners" Association and he was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending the time painting and writing poetry.

He is survived by two daughters, Jean Gunning (Thomas P.) of Portsmouth and Lois Mello (James P.) of Hopewell Junction, NY, two grandsons, James L. and Justin P. Mello and a sister, Tina Pavao of Plainville, MA and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Monday, July 21, 2014 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours will be Sunday, July 20, 2014 from 2:00-6:00 PM.
