Acting on Tip, Warren Police Seize Heroin Users

Two men nabbed while allegedly injecting themselves with heroin in a Warren parking lot.

Acting on a tip from a caller of suspicious activity in a nearby parking lot for a convenience store, Warren police arrested and charged two men last week with drug possession.

Noah R. Cottrell, 25, of Westport, Mass., and Davie L. Geary, 30, of Newport, were sitting in vehicles at the Corner Store parking lot, 370 Child St., at around 7 pm on Oct. 7. The caller provided descriptions of them and their vehicles.

Officers responded immediately and found the vehicles. They also “observed in plain sight,” said Warren Police Lt. Roland Brule, narcotics paraphernalia, including a syringe and needle.

“They were both injecting themselves,” Brule said.

Geary also allegedly took some of the heroin and swallowed it, according to the police report. He was checked out by Warren EMTs and refused to be taken to a hospital.

Cottrell and Geary both were charged with possession of heroin and controlled substance conspiracy. Geary also was charged with obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty for swallowing evidence.

The men were taken to the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston for a bail review. Cottrell was released on surety bail on Oct. 8. Geary was released on personal recognizance on Oct. 8.

They were given the date of Dec. 17 to return to District Court to face the charges. Total value of the heroin seized was about $30.
