A Bristol man, 26, faces a Bristol police charge of allegedly strangling another member of his family.
Alexander Papaiouannou, of 21 Bradford St., reportedly used a pillow to cover the mouth and nose of a woman while allegedly strangling her last Saturday, Oct. 5, at his home, said Deputy Police Chief Steven Contente. He was arrested around 5:14 pm.
The woman grabbed a phone to contact police during the alleged assault, Contente said.
“That’s when he let her go,” said the deputy chief.
The woman had red marks on her neck and both wrists, he said. She told police that she had difficulty breathing during the alleged assault.
She met police officers at a site on the corner of Metacom Avenue and Gooding Avenue, Contente said. He was arrested shortly after the woman made a statement to police.
Papaiouannou was charged with domestic assault by strangulation and aggravated assault. He was given a date to appear in District Court to face the charge.
