A Bristol man has been sent to prison for 17 years after a series of domestic assaults.
Superior Court Judge Williams E. Carnes, Jr., ordered Joseph Botelho, 44, of Bristol, to serve the remaining 17 years on his 19 year probation sentence for three felony counts of domestic assault, Attorney General Peter Kilmartin announced. The order comes after Botelho was charged with assaulting his wife and two teenage children.
The East Providence Police Department arrested Botelho, who has a long criminal history dating back to 1986, after he reportedly attempted to run from the police. The underlying domestic charges, which include one count of felony domestic assault, two counts of simple domestic assault (each charged as the third domestic), and one count of resisting arrest, are pending.
