False Alarm on Mt. Hope Bridge Jumper

Search finds no indication that someone jumped from the Mt. Hope Bridge.

A report that someone jumped from the Mt. Hope Bridge on Saturday, Oct. 12, appears to have been a false alarm.

Rescue workers from the U.S. Coast Guard, Bristol, Tiverton and the Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force found nothing after a search, according to Capt. Steve Lynch of the Portsmouth Fire Department. The search was called off after several hours on Saturday because of darkness, according to eastbayri.com

There was no report of a missing person either, he said. It appears that someone just spotted someone else leaning over the bridge railing.
