Tiverton Police ID Victims in Tuesday's Fatal Crash

Tiverton Police have identified the victims in the Stafford Road crash that left one 21-year-old man dead and another critically injured on Tuesday.

Tiverton Police have identified the victims in Tuesday's early-morning crash on Stafford Road in Tiverton that killed one 21-year-old local man and left another in critical condition.

Bryan Henrique, 21, of 35 Sheldon St., Tiverton, was killed on Tuesday after his 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix struck a utility pole on Stafford Road at 1:23 a.m. The car catapulted off of the roadway and landed in the woods, trapping Henrique and a single passenger. State medical examiners pronounced Henrique dead at the scene of the crash shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Henrique was a 2010 graduate of Tiverton High School.

The passenger, Seth A. Poe Demoura, 21, of 386 Canonicus St., Tiverton, was extricated from the severely damaged sedan after several attempts to use the Jaws of Life. Rescue personnel were able to free Poe Demoura from the Pontiac after removing the roof of the vehicle using the Jaws of Life. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital via a Medflight Helicopter at 2:13 a.m. where he remains in critical condition.

Tiverton Fire Rescue crews had to cut down several trees in order to reach the car. Poe Demoura graduated from Tiverton High School in 2009.

Police said neither the driver nor passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Although the cause of the crash remains under investigation, police stated that an initial investigation determined the vehicle was traveling southbound on Stafford Road at a high rate of speed prior to the accident.

"Alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor," Tiverton Police indicated in a press release on Tuesday evening.

The accident remains under the investigation of certified accident investigators Detective Brendan McKinnon and Officer Dan Martin of the Tiverton Police Department. State Police have offered the assistance of their accident investigation unit and Tiverton Police investigators will meet and consult with State Police investigators within the next several days.
