Warren Man Opens New Year With Assault Charges

Police were called to a Main Street apartment early on New Year's Day after getting a report of fighting.

A Warren man, 28, started his new year by being arrested for domestic assault and disorderly conduct.

Michael Emond, of 15 Church St., was arrested early on Jan. 1 after he admitted to grabbing and scratching the face of a woman in a third floor apartment at 82 Main St.

Warren police responded to the apartment at about 2:15 am after receiving a report from a caller that several people were fighting. Officers heard a woman crying inside the apartment when they arrived, according to Warren Police Lt. Roland Brule.

Officers noticed a “fresh wound” on the face and chin of the woman, Brule said.

Emond told officers that he had grabbed the woman’s face and scratched her with his fingernails, Brule said.

Both the man and woman had been drinking, he said. It was not reported what they were fighting about.

Emond was taken to the Warren police station and arraigned by a justice of the peace and released on $1,000 personal recognizance. He was given a date to appear in District Court to face the charges.
