Ottiano Honored by State Nurses Association

Ottiano was honored for his "support and protecting the practice of nursing in Rhode Island," said Rhode Island State Nurses Association Executive Director Donna Policastro.

Sen. Christopher Scott Ottiano (R-Dist. 11, Portsmouth, Bristol), along with Re. David A. Bennett (D-Dist. 20, Warwick, Cranston) were recently honored by the Rhode Island State Nurses Association (RISNA) for their work in the General Assembly and in their careers.

Both legislators have careers in health care and serve on their chambers’ respective health committees. Representative Bennett is a registered nurse at Butler Hospital in Providence, and Senator Ottiano is a physician at the Brain & Spine Neurosurgical Institute in Johnston. They have been vocal supporters of legislation affecting health care and nurses in Rhode Island, and last year were instrumental to the passage legislation (2013- H 5656A, 2013-S 614A) ensuring that advanced practice registered nurses are allowed by law to practice to the full extent of their education.

The two legislators were presented with the organization’s 2014 Legislative Award at a reception at the Providence Marriott on May 7.
