Polo Returns to Newport Today

The signs along East Main Road say it all — there's a polo match this weekend!

It may not be the official start of the Newport polo season, but this weekend's chukker is sure to get the ball rollin' and crowds cheering before the season begins.

The Newport Rotary Club's annual benefit match will take place at the polo grounds of Glen Farm on Saturday, May 25. Gates open at 4 p.m.

Hosted by the Newport Polo Club, the match features the home team, Newport, playing against a regional challenger in a classic six-chukker dual. All proceeds from the event will go to the Rotary club's many charitable initiatives.

A faithful Rotary Polo Committee of volunteers organizes this annual benefit match, selling $10 general admission tickets. (Kids 12 and under are free.)

There are no advanced ticket sales for this event and no reservations for Tailgate Parking Spaces. It is first-come-first-serve, once the gates open at 4 p.m.

Newport Polo hosts a number of benefit matches each season. Tickets to these benefit matches are not sold by Newport Polo; they are sold by the nonprofit organizations themselves, who are the beneficiaries of the 'benefit' match.

The Newport International Polo Series will officially open its season on the following Saturday, June 1, and will run continuously every Saturday through the rest of the summer, with an international line-up as well as rivals from the Northeast.
