Middletown, Bristol, Tiverton, Warren Beaches Reopen to Swimming

Good news for what is shaping up to be a great beach weekend weather-wise. The call to reopen the beaches came about 24 hours after they were closed to swimming due to high bacteria counts.

Good news for beach goers this weekend — state Department of Health officials have recommended re-opening Atlantic Beach Club in Middletown, Bristol Town Beach in Bristol, Fogland Beach in Tiverton, Grinnell’s Beach in Tiverton, and Warren Town Beach in Warren for swimming.

The department recommended people do not swim at those beaches Thursday afternoon after high bacteria counts were detected in water quality samples taken after a period of heavy rainfall earlier in the week.

The call to reopen the beaches to swimming came after water samples taken today showed bacteria levels have fallen to acceptable limits.

Officials will continue to monitor the water quality at these beaches. Water quality analysis is conducted by health department laboratory or a state certified laboratory.

Also closed yesterday was Conimicut Point Beach in Warwick, which has also reopened. Meanwhile City Park Beach in Warwick is now closed to swimming because of high bacteria counts.
