Here's What's Happening This Weekend

The upcoming weekend between Christmas and New Year’s Day is all about visiting with family and friends or traveling out of town to see relatives, but there are things in and around Bristol and Warren if you are looking to add something to your schedule:

The Mt. Hope High School boys’ basketball team plays today at 5 pm against Portsmouth High in the annual East Bay Holiday Tournament at Rogers High School in Newport. The Huskies were 1-1 so far this season going into Thursday’s game against Tiverton High (0-2). Portsmouth had dropped three straight to start the season.

The Mt. Hope High School girls’ basketball team also plays tonight at Johnston High at 7 pm. The girls are 1-2 on the year.

The Barrington/Mt.Hope/Portsmouth Co-op girls’ hockey team skates against the Burrillville/Ponaganset co-op squad at Dennis Lynch Arena in Pawtucket on Saturday at 8 pm. The girls are 4-0-2 on the season; Burrillville/Ponaganset is 3-1. 

The Audubon Society’s Environmental Education Center, 1401 Hope St., Bristol, has scheduled a variety of things to do during school vacation week. Here is the weekend schedule:

Friday, Dec. 27; 11 am:  

Owl See, Owl Do: Could you be an owl detective? Come and learn all about the amazing world of owls and discover which owls live in Rhode Island.  Please note there is a $2.00 fee per owl pellet.

Saturday, Dec. 28; 11:00 am: 

OH! DEER! Who is able to jump fences with a single bound, swim across the deepest lakes, walk 20 minutes after being born and posses the fastest growing living tissue on earth?

Sunday, Dec. 29

  • 12:30 – 2:30 pm: Nature Craft
  • 1:00 pm: Animal Interview
  • 2:00 pm: Nature Story
  • 2:30 pm: Antarctic Mission Nature Flick. Join the adventure as scientists sail to the bottom of the world to explore the great Antarctic. 

Disney On Ice continues its run at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence with more than 60 of Disney's captivating characters brought to life on skates in this commemorative celebration. Show times today and Saturday are 11 am, and 3 and 7 pm and Sunday, Dec. 29, at 12 and 4 pm. Click here for more information.
